Summary
The Cell Culture and Medium Development Group within Preclinical Manufacturing and Process Development is looking for a motivated person to assist in medium development for mammalian cell culture processes. He/she will perform studies at a benchtop scale to develop cell culture medium that improves cell growth, cell productivity, and/or product quality. In this role, the individual will perform cell culture experiments, small scale bioreactor development, and literature searches. The ability to design experiments, statistically interpret results, and communicate findings is required.

Responsibilities
We are looking for an engineer that will work independently to develop new areas of research in the area of cell culture.

- Execution and development of cell culture studies using aseptic technique in shaker flasks, automated single-use bioreactors, and bench scale bioreactors (50mL to 2-L scale)
- Generate, manage, analyze, and maintain critical data in a highly organized manner
- Coordination and interfacing with colleagues from other groups involved in the research process, including cell line development, bioreactor scale-up, purification, and manufacturing.
- The position requires work on weekends and occasional travel upstate

Daily tasks will include (but are not limited to):
- Cell cultivation in shaker flasks and bioreactors
- Benchtop bioreactor operation and maintenance
- Medium and reagent preparation
- Laboratory organization and cleaning

Requirements
Minimum Requirements:

• BS or MS in Chemical Engineering or Bio-related Engineering with 0-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting

• GPA 3.0 or higher

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and record keeping abilities to accurately record, analyze, and document development data generated

• Candidates with internships in related fields are strongly encouraged to apply.

Additional Skills (preferred, but not required):

• Experience with mammalian cell culture

• Experience with developing fed-batch bioreactor processes including optimizing feeding strategies and evaluating different cell culture media and feed formulations

• Experience with statistical design and analysis software (i.e. JMP)

Will consider candidates with additional experience for PDEI,II, or III positions. PDA or PDE1 is preferred level for this position.
