Amgen is seeking a technology specialist with a passion for leading the support and innovation of technology solutions in the ever-changing global tax landscape. As the Specialist IS Architect of Tax Systems, you would be responsible for providing the technical know-how to achieve strategic tax imperatives via architectural design of system enhancements, hands-on build, and planning for the future. Your job would also be responsible for keeping our tax systems running smoothly so our tax professionals can focus on what they do best.

The Specialist IS Architect, Tax Systems serves as an internal point of contact for flow of information between team members and reports to the Senior Manager Information Systems - Corporate Functions Platforms at the Amgen Capability Center in Tampa, Florida. They will be a contributor to the success of the Corporate Functions vision to improve end user experience and optimally meet the business needs. This role will provide exposure to the Amgen's Corporate Functions Platforms and its internal business clients in the Record-to-Report area.

Responsibilities of this role include:
  • Co-innovate with Amgen tax professionals by developing, planning, and managing the tax Information Technology long term roadmap
  • Architect and build enhancements and life cycle updates in custom-developed SQL-based tax technology and SaaS solutions
  • Create, maintain, and monitor service level agreements that list the agreed level of service in support of tax systems
  • Manage access to corporate tax systems
  • Partner with system vendors and external partners to provide day-to-day support over the operation of tax systems
  • Develop monitoring controls to proactively maintain acceptable performance and health of tax systems
  • Act as a point of contact in problem investigation and participate in reviewing business impacts, root causes, and implementation of recommended actions
  • Determine system recovery strategy to support business requirements
  • Own and maintain all design specifications and test protocols
  • Work independently, function as a knowledge resource for less experienced European-based team member while providing oversight using best practices and change management discipline to improve systems and services
  • Respond to inspections or audits for tax technologies
  • Monitor global regulatory eTax landscape

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree
Master's degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience
Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced skills with Transact-SQL development
  • Experience with SQL Server Always-On environments
  • Experience with Thomson-Reuters OneSource set of products
  • Experience with Visual Basic for Applications and integration with Excel
  • Good at logic and solving problems
  • Ability to explain complicated technical concepts simply
  • Previous experience with systems integrated into income tax processes
  • Strong service management mindset in delivering production support
  • High attention to detail and self-directed
  • Ability to work in a team environment, effectively interacting with others and coaching junior team members in geographically disbursed model
  • Respond to inspections or audits for tax technologies
  • Experience with Alteryx, Tableau and ETL technologies (i.e. Informatica) a plus
