Job Details

Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.

Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

Our goal is to develop a mechanistic understanding of the metabolic pathways driving cardiovascular disease. The intern will work with in vitro models of cardiovascular research. The scientific focus of this role is to validate potential pathways critical for cardiovascular function.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams of scientists inside the Cardiometabolic Disorders Group for target exploration of heart failure projects
  • Work closely with colleagues to design and execute experiments
  • Independently organize, coordinate, and conduct in vitro studies
  • Prepare study report and present to the department
  • Maintain laboratory notebook records and adhere to safety policies


Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a Master's program for a Masters internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology
  • Knowledge of Physiology, Biochemistry, Anatomy, and Genetics
  • Experience with primary cells (cardiomyocyte) isolation and culture
  • Experience with PCR and western blotting techniques
  • Knowledge in the field of cardiovascular
  • Understanding of human biology
  • Work independently as well as with an interdisciplinary team of scientists
  • Eagerness to learn new technical skills
  • Ability to review literature, design experiments and trouble shoot
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Contribution to positive and cordial work environment
