Job Details
The Molecular Engineering department at Amgen, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Structural Biology group to study the structure and function of proteins involved in human disease using cryo-EM technology. The laboratory provides comprehensive molecular insight and structure-based design for drug target assessment, mechanism of action, protein-protein and protein-ligand interaction analysis, as well as protein engineering to facilitate drug discovery across various important therapeutic areas. The laboratory is equipped with a Talos F200C TEM and K3 detector for sample screening, dedicated Krios data collection time and modern computation platform as well as molecular biology, biophysics and crystallography capabilities.
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for leading the projects through the entire structure elucidation process, including protein expression and purification, cryo-EM grid preparation, data collection, data processing using state-of-art software, 3-D reconstruction and model building. The position will collaborate with a distinguished academia lab in a prestigious university in the greater San Francisco area. The postdoctoral fellow will work independently, with opportunities to interact with a diverse group of scientists to gain valuable experience in drug discovery. The role offers flexibility and independence in selecting the course of action and permits exploration of emerging technologies and targets. In addition, the position will have opportunities to publish in top tier journals.
The assignment length is expected to be 3 years long.
Basic Qualifications
Ph.D. at the time of appointment
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics or related discipline
Proven in-depth knowledge and expertise in cryo-EM demonstrated preferably through principal authorship in peer-reviewed publication(s).
Strong background in protein purification, cryo-EM grid optimization, and experience with data processing and model building
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
