Grad Intern - R&D (Protein Technologies)

Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation. Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

To underpin our commitment to serve patients, Amgen is hiring in the Department of Protein Technologies, Biologics, at our Research and Development facility in Cambridge, MA (AMA).

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented graduate student for the 2019 summer intern program in our Protein Technologies group. This laboratory provides comprehensive molecular cloning, protein expression, purification and analytics support for the early stage pipeline of projects including both protein and small molecule therapeutics. The successful intern will have the opportunity to learn many cutting-edge technologies for protein engineering and production in mammalian cells. He/she will also get direct exposure to drug discovery processes in industrial setting and be a part of the exciting scientific discovery community at Amgen.

The interns responsibilities include (but not limited to) molecular cloning, bioinformatics analysis, protein expression in mammalian cells, protein purification, and biochemical characterization. The successful intern will work in teams to design expression constructs, optimize expression conditions for a variety of antibody variants.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a MBA program for a MBA internship OR a Master's program for a Masters internship OR a PharmD program for a PharmD internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Pursuing a graduate degree in molecular biology, cell biology, chemical engineering or related fields.

Experience in cloning, mammalian cell culture, statistics design, genomic analysis, DNA/RNA sequencing.

Previous academic accomplishments (i.e., peer-reviewed publications and/or patents)

Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to work well in teams.
