Data Engineering & Analytics is a rapidly evolving space, with new use cases and changes in technology landscape coming to fore every day. Amgen's Global Commercial Operations IS team is looking for an experienced Data Engineer, who has proven record of building scalable production applications, in a fast-moving environment. Candidate will be knowledgeable in across technology stack, should be able to prototype, pivot, develop and operationalize solutions at pace with business demands.

The Sr. Data Engineer will be part of the Data & Analytics team and will build next generation of Data and Advanced Analytics capabilities. Example of such capabilities could include Data Streaming, Unstructured Data Pipelines, Patient Data Security, Machine Learning, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Defines and approves data engineering design patterns to be used for general re-use on multiple implementations
  • Learn about business use cases, problems and identify technology solutions
  • Help design data models, perform associated data engineering activities to meet business needs
  • Evaluate and introduce of emerging technologies to advance data engineering and analytics capabilities
  • Perform full stack software design and development to build frameworks, applications, APIs, data pipelines, machine learning models, etc. to meet business use cases
  • Contribute to software development process change and DevOps discussions
  • Proactively manage technical debt incurred during software implementations by identifying opportunities for enhancement (debt repayment), even in tight deadlines
  • Participate in sprint planning meetings to contribute with estimations and development strategy
  • Drive cost savings with ownership of software designs and architecture


Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 3 years of Data Science and/or Data Science Engineering and/or Product Engineering experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Data Science and/or Data Science Engineering and/or Product Engineering experience

OR

Associates' degree and 10 years of Data Science and/or Data Science Engineering and/or Product Engineering experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Data Science and/or Data Science Engineering and/or Product Engineering experience

Preferred Qualification:

  • Masters in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, data structures, networking & algorithms
  • 6 or more years of experience developing in one or more languages (Java, C#, C, Python, Go)
  • 6 or more years of experience developing front end and backend applications, REST/SOAP style APIs
  • 4 or more years of experience in developing frontend frameworks (Javascript, Jquery, AngularJS, ReactJS, Loadash, Moment, D3)
  • Demonstrated strong front-end development skills especially concerning accessibility, extensibility, client-side computing, object-oriented design patterns, and object-oriented CSS
  • 4 or more years of experience with open source development tool chain (SVN, Git, Jenkins, etc)
  • Experienced in building cloud native applications with one of big 3 cloud providers (AWS, Microsoft, Google). Should have delivered at least 2 applications with different use cases. Strong understanding of cloud provider architecture, concepts & SDKs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with different personality styles and build relationships
  • Experience with on experience in one or more - ETL, Batch Processing, Machine Learning
  • Past experience in the education or healthcare industry, or business intelligence
