Job Details

Research Investigator II

The successful candidate will be responsible for development of synthetic processes to product small molecule pharmaceuticals in Chemical and Synthetic Development, with wide latitude for independent judgment, decision, and action.

Chemical engineering efforts involve experimental study of processes in the laboratory as well as scale-up in the pilot plant. Specific unit operations that require in-depth investigation include reaction, purification, distillation, crystallization, separation, chromatography and drying. Chemical engineers play a key role in generating the knowledge to support scale-up of processes in pilot plants, and technology transfer to vendors and manufacturing sites.

As a member of the Reaction Science and Engineering group, the successful candidate will be responsible for gathering fundamental process knowledge and achieving deep understanding of reaction mechanisms to enable the implementation of efficient, robust and safe chemical processes. This will involve a mixture of laboratory experimentation, modeling and data analysis, focusing on flow chemistry, catalysis, hydrogenation, in-process spectroscopy and others. This individual is expected to develop strong working relationships with key scientific leaders and collaborators in process development and serve as a technical subject matter expert in strategies and techniques for reaction analysis and chemical engineering fundamentals. The ability to interact constructively and a team approach to problem solving is important. Presentation of scientific material at internal and external meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals will be encouraged. A high level of energy and strong work ethic is critical to success.

The Qualified individual will have the following background:
  • PhD. in Chemical Engineering with minimum 0 - 3 years of experience or B.S./M.S. in Chemical Engineering with minimum 5 years experience in chemical process development or related background.
  • Candidates with prior experience in chemical process development or related will be preferred.
  • The individual must have demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Excellent oral written communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative team environment are required.
  • This position requires employees to work with or come in contact with chemical or biological agents which may pose health or safety hazards if improperly handled.
