Job Details

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

These positions are in Cell Culture and Medium Development within Preclinical Manufacturing & Process Development in Tarrytown, NY. There are 5 positions for Summer AND Fall (full time, about 7 months from May/June to December 2019)

Position 1:
The students will assist in the development of processes producing potential therapeutics using mammalian cell culture. The student will use bench scale bioreactors to evaluate cell line candidates based on cell growth, cell productivity, and product quality. Optimally performing cell lines will be transferred and utilized in clinical manufacturing of therapeutic antibodies. Additionally, the student will assist in the development of the platform processes that are used in the initial evaluations of cell line candidates. The student will also assist ongoing efforts to characterize the precision and variability of analytical tools and process equipment.

Position 2:
This student will support the development of late stage cell culture bioreactor processes. Project will be timeline dependent but potentially could include cell line screening and medium development for a post commercial process. This may involve evaluating compatibility of continuous technologies. Daily responsibilities will include:

• Cell cultivation in shaker flasks and bioreactors (2-5L scale)

• Benchtop bioreactor operation and maintenance

• Medium and reagent preparation

• Laboratory organization and cleaning

Position 3:
This student will assist in the development of processes producing potential therapeutics using mammalian cell culture. He/she will use sterile technique in executing shake flask and benchtop-scale bioreactor experiments to develop cell culture media formulations that improve cell growth, cell productivity, and product quality. He/she may also evaluate different technologies for their potential use in development programs. Concepts from coursework in cell biology, mass transfer, and basic chemistry will be routinely applied to experimental activities. The ability to design experiments, interpret results, and communicate findings will be developed as part of the cooperative education experience.

Position 4:
The student will be exposed to real-world responsibilities, comprehensive basic training and guidance to participate in the development of new media and feed formulations to improve the production of biotherapeutics. The student will support cell culture experiments in shake flasks, ambr and bench scale bioreactors. He/she will assist with Metabolic Flux Analysis (MFA), predictive modeling, statistical data analysis, among other techniques to increase our understanding and improve cell culture process efficiency based on evaluation of historical and real time process and cell metabolism data.

Familiarity with data analysis techniques and modeling is highly desirable. Concepts from coursework in metabolism, mass transfer, programing, kinetics and biotechnology will be applied to experimental and data analysis activities. The ability to design experiments, interpret results, and communicate findings will be developed as part of the cooperative education experience.

Position 5:
The student will assist on-going work in Medium Development, within the Cell Culture Development group. Specifically, the project will focus on small-scale, high-throughput screening experiments designed to understand the metabolic profile of our cell lines. Further, the information gained from scale-down experiments will be used to tailor feeding strategies for current and future cell lines to improve productivity and product quality of continuous processes. The student will develop skills in experimental design, medium development, sterile cell culture technique and data analysis.
