Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

These positions are in Intellectual Property in Tarrytown, NY. There are two openings for Summer 2019. Each opening is described below.

Position 1:
The student will get a realistic look at the patent agent/attorney profession, for example, the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges of a corporate patent professional. Specifically, the student will receive a first-hand experience with searching and analyzing the patent landscape of selected technologies, as well as assisting with patent procurement and contract review. At the completion of this 10 week internship, the student should be able to judge if patent work is right for them. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Record experimental objectives, as well as quickly understand and analyze the related subject technology

• Perform keyword and/or biological sequence searches relevant to the subject technology in publication databases

• Effectively document and present search & analysis conclusions concerning the competitive landscape, available whitespace, etc. with regard to the subject technology

• Be willing to observe, learn, and participate in the patent application administrative process and follow established protocols

Position 2:
This student will assist with legal projects, including learning the basics of legal research and case searches. The student will also assist with international legal projects, including taking notes on calls with foreign counsel and foreign associates within the company. The student will assist in assembling a comparative handbook on patent laws in the U.S. and Europe as well as possibly other jurisdictions. The student will do the same for national court litigation in various countries, including analyzing differences in process, discover, and national laws. In general, the student will be expected to assist all members of the Dispute Resolution Group with any substantive or administrative tasks.

• Position 1: Must be enrolled in a law school program with a degree in the Life Science discipline, preferably Molecular Biology, Genetics, or Biochemistry

• Position 2: Can be an undergraduate, graduate, or law student studying Biochemistry with an interest in law, or pre-law

Position 1:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills

• Some understanding of patent law and USPTO patent process (or ability to search the MPEP) desirable but not required

• Ability to work autonomously as well as collaborate effectively as needed with functional groups in IP and Scientific areas

• Must demonstrate sound judgment and good time management skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power-point); Exposure to MS SharePoint a plus

• Knowledge of Adobe Professional, Visio, SharePoint, or other organizational software a plus

• Position 2: A background in biology or chemistry is preferred

General Intern Program Information:

• Must be enrolled in, or accepted to, an academic program pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or PharmD

• Summer Program is full-time (~40 hrs/wk) for at least 10 weeks and is paid

• Prefer demonstrated leadership in areas such as campus activities, clubs, sports or the community

• Minimum GPA of 3.0

• You will work with a specific manager on a project(s)

• Enjoy weekly 1 hour Intern Program events: learn about other areas of the company from VPs and other employees, soft skills workshops, networking, volunteering, and more!

• Present to your team on your summer project
