Summary:

The Director, Human Resources (HRBP) provides human resources generalist support to employees and management in designated business units (including Research and other client groups as assigned). The Director, HR serves as a consultant to management and employees on Human Resource related issues; assessing and anticipating HR-related needs while seeking to develop integrated solutions. The Director, HR will formulate partnerships across the HR function to deliver value added services that reflects the business objectives of the organization. This individual will be responsible for maintaining an effective level of knowledge regarding the organization, as well as core human resources functions such as employee relations, training, performance management, compensation, benefits, and recruitment. The Director, HR will be influential at the executive level and effectively build and maintain relationships while addressing difficult and complex issues. This position is resident in our San Francisco Mission Bay office and reports to the Sr. VP, Human Resources & Facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Understand the complex challenges leaders face in a dynamic, changing business environment and are prepared to counsel on everything from strategic organizational design, workforce planning, to inspiration of teams during times of transition and change.
  • Provide support that helps leaders and their team perform optimally.
  • Counsel leaders on how to identify and attract key talent, develop succession plans, utilize recognition and rewards to incentivize behavior, and help leaders drive performance improvement and career development within their teams.
  • Spot gaps and frictions, providing practical recommendations of action.
  • Works to understand and respond to the business and HR needs of employees.
  • Develops effective relationships that promote company-wide trust and value for the HR function.
  • Collaborates with other HR functions to develop programs that meet business objectives.
  • Will work to implement Learning & Development initiatives.
  • Design, develop, and at times deliver training content that best meets the needs of the organization.
  • Ensure development programs and content integrate seamlessly and build on each other.
  • Design and support team performance workshops and business offsite events as needed.
  • Manage on-boarding and off-boarding process of employees.
  • Implement and support company-wide programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are consistently and equitably applied and that appropriate legal and compliance requirements are met while providing a proactive, positive employee relations climate.
  • Participate with other members of the HR team in the identification, design and implementation of future HR programs/initiatives.
  • Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements.
  • Additional typical responsibilities may include development and delivery of programs, such as new employee orientation, performance management and/or organizational development training.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Requires a Bachelors/Masters degree in Business Management or related discipline. An SPHR or other related certification is a plus. Equivalent experience may be accepted.

A minimum of 13 years of experience in Human Resources is required. Previous experience working in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device industry is strongly preferred. Experience working in a Human Resources function such as Traning & Development, Total Rewards, or Recruiting is a plus.

Additional Requirements:
  • Proven track record of successfully building and managing relationships with diverse employees ranging from senior management to individual contributors.
  • Can work with minimal supervision, has good judgment, and can analyze and strategize.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills along with an ability to multitask.
  • A demonstrated business acumen is required.
  • Excellent customer focus and relationship building skills.
  • Must be able to work with a high attention to detail.
  • Experience working in both small and large size companies is advantageous.
  • Must possess excellent project management skills.
  • Must be computer literate. Knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel and HRIS required.
