R&D Specialist

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is seeking an R&D Specialist for our Tarrytown, New York location. The candidate will contribute to Regeneron's Metabolic and Muscle Disease Group to support target and drug discovery activities within the areas of in vivo pharmacology, mouse genetics, molecular biology, and protein biochemistry. Responsible for designing and executing mouse in vivo studies, and independently planning and executing molecular biology and biochemistry projects. Responsible for mouse in vivo studies include characterization of novel drug targets and testing drug candidates for metabolic diseases using rodent models. Design and perform in vivo experiments to validate potential drug targets for metabolic diseases, to perform in vivo pharmacology experiments using drug candidates, which include measurement of whole body composition, whole body energy expenditure, glucose tolerance, and to harvest blood and tissue samples for histological, biochemical and molecular biological analysis. Participate in lab group meetings and seminars and generate presentations from laboratory data to support conference presentations and regulatory documents.

Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, or a related field and 5 years of post-degree laboratory experience in the areas of muscle disease and obesity. The position requires 5 years of hands-on experience with in vivo research in the areas of muscle disease and obesity using rodent models. Must possess 5 years of experience in the areas of rodent handling, and genetic and dietary models of obesity and the obesity-associated metabolic diseases. Must possess 1 year of experience with measuring energy expenditure in rodents using oxymax metabolic monitoring system (Columbus instruments international), and 1 year of experience with operating hyperinsulinemia euglycemic clamp system using conscious mice. Employer will accept a 3 year degree or a combination of degrees for diplomas and experience as meeting the Bachelor's degree requirement.
