Sr Research Scientist I, Automation


Biology Core Support Group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Scientist-I to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for establishing our automation core function, developing automation solutions, operating and maintaining our automation platforms to support as well as directly contribute to our drug discovery projects.


As one of the supportive groups within Biology Department of Gilead, we provide critical support to all drug discovery projects in recombinant proteins/antibodies production, biophysics/enzymology, mass- spectrometry /imaging as well as bioinformatics. This incoming scientist will work with colleagues within Protein Chemistry Group and support exciting drug discovery projects in antiviral, immunology/oncology and inflammation therapeutic areas that include small molecule, Biologics as well as CAR-T cellular therapies.


Education, Knowledge & Experience:

• MS in Biochemistry, Biophysics or Biomedical Engineering plus with extensive years of directly related experience, or Ph.D. in similar majors plus minimal 5 years of working experience in the field of bio-process automation

• Hands-on experience in operating Hamilton STAR line and Agilent Bravo and VPrep or similar liquid handlers in biotech and pharmaceutical environment is a must

• proficiency in designing, developing, executing and troubleshooting automation process a must; previous direct involvement in setting up automation function for a bio-lab is strongly preferred

• automation related data procession and management experience strongly preferred

• Deep understanding of biologics and small molecule drug discovery required; previous working experience in antibody processing/biologics drug discovery and molecular assessment is strongly preferred

• Strong leadership skills, as well as, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
