A scientist position is available within the Cell Culture group of the Process Sciences Department at AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. The group is responsible for developing and supporting cell culture manufacturing processes for early and late phase clinical programs. We strive for speedy delivery of quality processes that are high yield, manufacturing friendly, robust and have desirable product quality attributes. The group interacts closely with other development groups, along with Manufacturing and Discovery. We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative scientist who will lead advanced bioreactor control and automaton efforts in our lab.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate laboratory equipment, PAT, and data analytics to establish automated bioreactor control platforms for cell culture process development with attention to understanding business and user requirements.
  • Develop efficient systems for the management and analysis of PAT data streams.
  • Execute and interpret experiments in process development or process characterization.
  • Assist in technical transfer and manufacturing support.
  • Develop a network and establish working relations with in-house PAT groups, equipment vendors, and third party hardware/software development companies.
  • Effectively communicate scientific data and concepts to internal and external audiences through reports and presentations.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, and GMP compliance.


Position will be hired based on level of experience.

  • MS or BS degree in biochemical/chemical engineering or life sciences related disciplines.
  • 0-2+ (MS) or 3-5+ (BS) years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, preferably related to bioreactor operations and control.
  • Experience with bioreactor control, electro-mechanical solutions, instrument integration and bioreactor laboratory control software.
  • Basic knowledge in related functional areas, such as purification, protein analytics, CMC, and/or regulatory would be beneficial.
