Job Details

We are seeking an experienced scientist to join our Mechanistic Disease Discovery Research team within the Oncology Discovery organization at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Redwood City, CA. This scientist will lead a team responsible for delivering potential biomarker and mechanism of action strategies and data for therapeutic targets in Oncology.

The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual that possesses the ability to work across a highly matrixed environment to deliver decisional data for targeted therapies and biomarker identification in oncology. The candidate will lead a team of scientists and effectively collaborate with colleagues in the oncology, discovery chemistry, protein engineering, translational medicine, biomarker, and clinical groups. The successful candidate has superb verbal and written communication skills and is capable of presenting scientific results to multidisciplinary teams, senior management and at external scientific meetings. This individual will be responsible for interfacing with project leaders and will contribute to patient selection strategies, tumor indication selection strategies, validating targets in primary human tumor samples, and contributing to target engagement and mechanism of action biology to justify development of targeted therapy candidates in oncology.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. degree with 2+ years post-doctoral/Industry experience in cancer biology and genetics or a closely related field is required. Substantial experience and expertise with primary human samples is highly valued. Familiarity with biomarker identification and application to clinical samples is a plus. Deep understanding of bioinformatic approaches to biomarker analysis, target validation and target identification is needed. Demonstrated ability to design in vitro and in vivo systems to conduct analyses of primary human tissue and cell lines is needed and application of these abilities to targeted therapies is critical. Key technical skills include proficiency in molecular biology techniques and genomics, technical expertise in NGS, cellular pharmacodynamic assay design, biomarker discovery, and interpretation of pharmacology experiments (PK, PD and efficacy). Demonstrated expertise to independently apply bioinformatics and data mining through multi-variate analysis and ability to effectively interact with core bioinformatics colleagues, as well as to use desktop tools/interfaces (e.g., Oncoland, Wuxi) and public databases (CBIO, Achilles, etc.) is required. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively internally and externally is required. Management/supervisory experience is highly valued but not required. Passion for building a highly collaborative and interactive team is essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Able to effectively present scientific data and concepts across various forums is required. This position is located in Redwood City, CA. There will be less than 10% travel.
