This position is for a purification scientist in Discovery research within the PS department of MDT, and replaces a critical loss of purification capacity in Biologics. The position supports pre-DP0 through post-ECN requests for purification of Biologics leads and reagents. Purified lead proteins are utilized in animal efficacy and PK studies in addition to stability/formulation studies. Purified reagents are used in assay development, immunizations and lead selections. The lead Biologics molecules required for Immunoscience, Fibrosis and CV may be non-antibody based molecules. These will be without a natural purification tag (Fc) and will require additional efforts in expression, purification methodology and characterization/stability. The position requires working closely with DWGs and the expression group for prioritization and timely deliveries for the DWGs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Purify recombinant proteins from bacterial and mammalian cells.
  • Provide scaled up purification of lead molecules for animal efficacy and PK studies.
  • Provide scaled up purification of lead molecules for stability and formulation studies.
  • Provide protein chemistry support including antibody fragment (Fab) generation, protein labeling (biotinylation, fluoresecent dyes, pegylation), and epitope mapping.
  • Collaborate with protein expression group and provide in-process expression screening.
  • Collaborate in multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams.
  • Communicate results written and verbally to multi-disciplinary team members.

Qualifications:
  • BA/BS in Biochemistry, Biology or a related field. Recent grads with an interest in laboratory science and 0-2 year's lab experience welcome to apply. 1-5 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry is beneficial, although there will be training provided.
  • Possess a "can do" attitude, must be flexible with job duties.
  • Willingness to learn new laboratory techniques, have some aptitude to troubleshoot and maintain equipment (with help from others).
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, and be successful at working well with a team of scientists.
