AbbVie is at the forefront of cancer research, discovering and developing the next generation of treatments to address unmet medical need for cancer patients. Our strong pipeline includes both small molecule and biologic therapeutic approaches with first in class agents that target multiple pathways central to the growth and survival of both solid and hematological malignancies.

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist III/Team leader with a proven track record of research accomplishments to join our growing cancer research organization. The scientist will lead a small team of 2-3 scientists as part of a larger Cancer Biology area dedicated to discovering and validating novel cancer targets and developing early and late stage discovery programs in the field of Oncology.

Key Responsibilities Includes:

  • Lead a small team of 2-3 scientists to investigate emerging biology with clear links between genetic/epigenetic cancer lesions and tumor survival that translates to heightened sensitivities in cancer versus normal cells
  • Independently conceive and execute hypothesis driven research projects in the field of Oncology
  • Develop innovative ex vivo/in vitro assays to interrogate the function of putative cancer genes
  • Develop and implement testing cascades for compound evaluation and SAR elucidation.
  • Evaluate novel pathways and mechanisms for potential therapeutic intervention
  • Make strong contributions to the research team's short- and long-term scientific strategies
  • Develop compelling scientific presentations and reports for internal review meetings, and external collaborators, scientific conferences and peer-reviewed journals

Basic:
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Cell Biology with emphasis in Cancer Biology/Genetics, with14+ (BS), 12+ (MS), or 6+ (Ph.D) years of post-graduate experience
  • Demonstrated track record of scientific achievement (i.e., strong publication and/or patent record)
  • Extensive laboratory experience in the utilization of genomics/genetics to identify/validate novel cancer genes
  • Proficient in the application of high-throughput approaches to identify candidate targets (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9), utilization of tumor models (e.g., PDX, CXM), and analysis of big data (e.g., TCGA, METABRIC, etc.).
  • Highly developed communication skills and keen ability to engage internal and external team members in collaborative research
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead master and Ph.D. level scientists
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary, matrixed environment
  • Enthusiasm and passion for conceiving and executing innovative scientific research

Key Leadership Competencies:

  • Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.
  • Interact with cross-functional teams to establish productive collaborations within and outside of AbbVie
  • Steps up and takes leadership to own toughest challenges
