Job Description:

The Vice President Oncology Early Development will have accountability for all oncology programs globally from preclinical up to Phase II. The successful candidate will serve as a key member of the global development team, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and Head of Oncology.

The Vice President has responsibility for leading all aspects of the early development oncology strategy and programs and will also play a key role in establishing collaborations with other biopharmaceutical companies, academic institutions and research organizations and medical oncology networks.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Serve as a key contributor to the annual oncology worldwide R&D strategic plan to effectively prioritize resources and assets to enrich the early pipeline and allocate resources to the highest opportunity projects to maximize results.
• Develop/refine the overall early oncology development strategy, emphasizing breakthrough innovation, and establishing near-term and long-term objectives.
• Ensure timely input into external innovation and business development opportunities. Able to work effectively with BD team for deep understanding of due diligence for new assets. He/She will be a key representative for the oncology early development to a range of audiences, including regulatory agencies worldwide as well as early development partners.
• Establish demonstrably value-adding oncology R&D collaborations and ensure that the efforts of partners are well supported, aligned with internal research priorities and targeted at specific goals and objectives.
• Foster a strong culture of innovation, creativity and teamwork. Ensure that the oncology R&D environment at Ipsen is one which enables the recruitment, retention and development of world-class scientific talent in all disciplines.
• Ensure competitive timelines in terms of early oncology development to contribute toward successful regulatory submissions to major markets worldwide.
• Ensure that Ipsen is effectively represented at relevant global scientific conferences.

Qualifications
Education
• MD or MD/PhD with strong clinical practice and clinical research experience in oncology for a minimum of 5 years. Board Certification (or equivalent) in Oncology/Hematology is preferable.
Experience
• Broad experience leading global teams across multiple locations with a successful track record of advancing novel oncology compounds through pre-clinical and early clinical development (Phase 1 through Proof of Concept) and to registrational/pivotal trial stage. A thorough understanding of how to expertly translate oncology development program strategies into executable clinical study concepts is required.
• Understands how to lead a science-driven organisation; able to bring talented scientists together to create a critical mass of expertise and foster creativity and motivation to achieve results.
• Proven relationship-building skills, both internally and externally with key stakeholders and opinion leaders in the oncology fields.
• Equally comfortable in directly running programs and indirectly by overseeing other personnel in the global environment in which the company operates.
• Comfortable working in a matrixed and scientifically interdependent environment.
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to innovation. Constantly seeks new technologies, processes and R&D techniques. Able to integrate diverse disciplines to achieve broader R&D objectives.

• Has extensive experience developing and leveraging research collaborations with academic institutions, industry partners and research institutions.

• Known for creating a highly collaborative culture which enables effective communication and knowledge sharing between teams in geographically dispersed locations.

• Proven experience recruiting, developing and retaining a world class oncology development team which is highly productive and efficient.
