Job Description – Manager, Discovery Bioinformatics
NextCure is a biopharmaceutical company located in Beltsville, MD, focused on the discovery and development of novel biologics for the treatment of cancer and other human diseases. In addition to research, development and manufacturing activities for pipeline immune-oncology therapeutics, NextCure is engaged in a large-scale discovery effort for novel immune modulators utilizing our Functional, Integrated, NextCure Discovery in Immuno-Oncology (FIND-IOTM) Platform. We are seeking a Manager of Discovery Bioinformatics to lead and coordinate key activities associated with discovery research analytics.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with both management and research teams to achieve objectives
- Manage and lead a bioinformatics team involved in data and target analysis
- Analyze problems, recommend technology-based solutions, and determine computational strategies
- Analyze large gene library screening datasets for basic research purposes
- Design and apply bioinformatics algorithms including unsupervised and supervised machine learning, dynamic programming, and graphic algorithms as necessary
- Manipulate publicly accessible, commercial, or proprietary genomic, proteomic, or post-genomic databases
- Aid and/or manage statistical analysis of in vitro and in vivo research validation studies
- Play an active role in managing of internal SQL databases
- Management of collaborative bioinformatics efforts with partners, collaborators and/or CROs
- Preparation of presentation materials and documents for Discovery programs
- Internal and external presentations of the Discovery platform and results
Requirements
- PhD in statistics, bioinformatics or related field with applications to biology
- Background in theoretical and applied statistics (industry experience a plus)
- Strong track record of data analysis, writing and presentation skills
- Expertise in Bayesian statistics, clustering methods, linear models and other statistical and analytical methods
- Experience with R programming language and statistical software packages
- Create novel computational approaches and analytical tools as needed for research goals
- Ability to utilize and manipulate databases such as TGCA, KEGG GO and others for annotation and target gene analyses
- Experience in management of research projects and teams
- History of working on research projects that involve interfacing with multiple functional teams
- Highly motivated and flexible with ability to work in fast-paced environment
