Tocagen believes cancer should be a manageable disease, and that long-term remission or elimination of the disease is possible. Driven by this vision, we are developing first-in-class, broadly applicable, cancer-selective gene therapies that are designed to activate a patient's immune system against their own cancer from within.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist-Bioinformatician with demonstrated expertise in genomic analyses, preferably with a research background in oncology and/or immunology. The scientist will support projects that aim to identify and validate molecular markers that are predictive of patient response following treatment with Tocagen's propriety gene therapy technology. Primary responsibility of this contract term is to help program and analyze genomics data coming out of key clinical trials.

Duties and Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
  • Apply bioinformatics and data analysis skills to identify molecular features from genomics and immune profiling datasets that correlate with clinical outcomes.
  • Develop and apply statistical techniques to prioritize potential biomarkers.
  • Work on informatics problems of diverse scope, including novel genomics applications.
  • Significantly contribute to defined documentation practices in support of regulatory filings, white papers, patent filings, publications, grants and other company documents.
  • Co-author scientific papers and/or journal articles and present research results to colleagues at scientific meetings.

Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Expertise in analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data and knowledge of best practices.
  • Strong programming skills, e.g., using Python and R.
  • Experience in clinical drug development is preferred but not required.
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of immunotherapy and biomarkers is preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought.
