Position: Associate Director, Operational Excellence

Location: New Brunswick, NJ

Reporting to the GPS Operational Excellence Director, this position will lead strategic and operational priorities for OpEx PMO. This position will work with the OpEx Director to successfully deploy the OpEX strategy across Global Supply Chain (GSC) and Procurement. The position will be a trusted partner, and coach for the GSC organization to meet business objectives and build the foundations to drive continuous, sustainable, flawless execution and performance improvement through deep and broad application of operational excellence methodology.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Execute strategy for deploying the full OpEX to improve business performance and increase people's lean competency

• Through hands on application, train and coach the organization to increase their lean technical and lean leadership competency

• Application of OpEX to improve safety, compliance, process stability, drive continuous improvement, build quality and efficiency into processes and improve process lead times and speed to market

• Improve ES&OP processes to enable accuracy of demand signal

• Partner with others to drive deeper understanding of the end to end value chain, establish future state and develop strategy to close the gap

• Use of understanding end to end value chain to optimize inventory and drive continuous flow of information and material

• Supporting GSC Global Logistics to streamline distribution processes and interface systems

• Work closely with ERP system to integrate Lean principles into ERP system

• Improve end-to-end information and material flow

• Apply lean planning methodology to optimize supply chain process with the goal of level loading work to achieve continuous flow and shortest lead time

• Work with Procurement to improve supplier quality, reliability, and reduce cost

• Partner with other OpEx team members to ensure standardization

• Develop and implement leader standard work

• Deliver OpEx training as required

• Lead and or contribute to other prioritized OpEx PMO work as required

• Apply change management methods to ensure effective execution of OpEX and to promote a culture and mindset of operational excellence and continuous improvement

• Build, maintain and leverage relationships across the matrix to identify opportunities for process improvement and facilitate the implementation and continuous monitoring of processes and staying up to date on developments in process improvement methodologies and best practices

• Establish a clear set of leading Value Stream and Operational Metrics that ensures early identification of issues to allow timely corrective action

Job Qualifications:

• Scientific or Engineering Bachelor's degree

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in Operations/Operational Excellence roles in Chemical/Life science/Biotech industry utilizing "lean" principles

• Demonstrated understanding of Toyota Production System (TPS) and application of tools and methods to drive efficient flow of material and information

• Understanding of supply chain principles and practices

• Expert problem solver with demonstrated experience solving complex process problems

• Deep understanding and demonstrated experience reducing end-to-end lead time & inventory optimization

• Deep understanding and application of lean supply chain principles & lean supply chain design

• Experience in level loading demand and improving production systems to achieve continuous flow

• Experience developing and successfully deploying standardized work, & continuous improvement

• Understanding of pharma production and planning processes

• Understanding of cost accounting

• Ability to connect lean to improving compliance, safety, quality, delivery and efficiency

• Ability to coach and influence leaders and team members without direct authority

• Demonstrated success in developing team members in lean leadership

• Demonstrated success using lean to optimize business processes

• Demonstrated success in improving management systems

• Expert in solving complex, value stream problems and leading major strategic initiatives

• Skilled in developing type 2 and 3 standardized work

• Track record of success in the rigorous planning, execution and timely delivery of projects and programs

• Builds relationships, able to negotiate & influence, and manage change in matrix environment

• Demonstrated proficiency in managing portfolio of projects and in leading change through others to achieve operational excellence

• Superior written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

• Required travel of up to 35% of the time
