Reporting to the Head of GPS Operational Excellence & Project Management Office (OpEx PMO) and a member of the OpEx PMO Leadership Team, this position will lead strategic and operational priorities for OpEx PMO. This position will be responsible for the successful deployment of the OpEx strategy across Product Development, Global Quality and Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (MS&T). The position will be a trusted partner, and coach for the leadership teams of the three organizations as they partner together to meet business objectives and build the foundations to drive continuous, sustainable, flawless execution and performance improvement through deep and broad application of operational excellence methodology.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Use standard Hoshin Kanri approach to shape and execute strategy and approach for deploying the full OpEx to improve business performance and increase people's lean competency

• Coach the leadership team members and other key stakeholders to increase their lean technical and lean leadership competency

• Application of OpEx to improve safety, compliance, process stability, drive continuous improvement, build quality and efficiency into processes and improve process lead times and speed to market

• Improve information and material flow and enhance the management system from the "shop floor" to the highest level of the organization to effectively manage interfaces

• Apply lean methods to build quality and efficiency into the quality management systems

• Project oversight on key cross functional strategic initiatives such as capacity demands for process development

• Partner with Operations' OpEx Director to ensure standardization of quality management systems

• Develop and implement leader standard work for all key leaders in the three organizations

• Apply lean thinking in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies for Drug Product manufacturing and control

• Apply Operational Excellence principles through application of Quality by Design (QbD) elements, Continuous manufacturing, risk management sciences, advanced scale-up models to ensure state-of-the-art science and risk based development approaches

• Lead PD productivity Improvement, Lean product Development methodology and innovation teams to achieve optimal process design that achieves highest quality, lowest cost and shortest lead time

• Improve end to end management system across the three organizations

• Lead and or contribute to other prioritized OpEx PMO work as required

• Apply change management methods to ensure effective execution of OpEx and to promote a culture and mindset of operational excellence and continuous improvement across GPS with increasing external focus and embedding it into our daily work

• Building, maintaining and leveraging relationships across the matrix to identify opportunities for process improvement and facilitate the implementation and continuous monitoring of processes and staying up to date on developments in process improvement methodologies and best practices

• Establish a clear set of leading Value Stream and Operational Metrics that ensures early identification of issues to allow timely corrective action

Job Qualifications:

• Scientific or Engineering Bachelor's degree

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in Operations /Operational Excellence roles in Chemical/Life science/Biotech industry utilizing "lean" principles with over 5 years of senior management experience

• Demonstrated success in developing & deploying Toyota Production System (TPS) strategy within compliance systems and product/process development

• Understanding of regulatory requirements, compliance standards, product development philosophy and processes

• Familiarity with EMA and FDA regulatory requirements for process development submissions

• Broad knowledge of drug development, CMC, preclinical and clinical requirements

• Understanding of cost accounting

• Demonstrated success in lean process design and Built-In-Quality methods

• Demonstrated success in optimizing product development to enable highest quality & shortest lead time

• Deep understanding of the connection between product/process design to P&L and Cash Flow

• Ability to connect lean to improving compliance, safety, quality, delivery and efficiency

• Demonstrated success in coaching and influencing executive level leaders

• Ability to influence leaders and team members without direct authority

• Demonstrated success in developing team members in lean leadership

• Demonstrated success applying Training Within Industry (TWI) methods to enhance compliance, quality, efficiency and skills development

• Demonstrated success using lean to optimize business processes

• Demonstrated success in improving management systems

• Expert in solving complex, large scope problems and leading major strategic initiatives

• Expert in developing type 2 and 3 standardized work, as well as leader standard work

• Track record of success in the rigorous planning, execution and timely delivery of enterprise level projects and programs

• Demonstrated success using QBD and DOE to optimize processes and products

• Skilled in statistical process control, and failure analysis techniques

• Demonstrated success leading change (both cultural and technical) to achieve continuous improvement

• Builds relationships, able to negotiate & influence, and manage change in matrix environment

• Demonstrated proficiency in managing portfolio of projects and in leading change through others to achieve operational excellence

• Superior written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

• Required travel of up to 40% of the time
