This is a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in the Large Molecule Discovery Biology group of the multi-disciplinary Elanco Research Labs, located at the Elanco Headquarters in Greenfield, IN. The position is a fixed duration of two years, which can be extended annually for up to a total term of four years. The focus of this work will be the genetic manipulation and phenotypic characterization of a CHO cell culture platform, for the purpose of producing therapeutic proteins. As a growing animal health company, Elanco is exploring the use of cutting edge cell line engineering tools to assist in optimizing a "fit-for-purpose" bioprocess strategy. This work would include identification of desirable phenotypic traits, determination of suitable genetic targets, assessment of multiple platform tools/strategies for genetic manipulation, generation of engineered cell lines, and comprehensive evaluation of cell line performance under biotherapeutic production conditions. The postdoctoral scientist will receive guidance and mentorship from multiple groups within Elanco, with a focus from Discovery Biology, Bioprocessing, and Informatics. This position will also involve interactions with external academic collaborators. As a postdoctoral scientist at Elanco, you will be expected to:

Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Biology or a related scientific field

Additional Skills/Preferences
  • Experience in suspension cell culture; preference for experience with bioreactors, CHO cells
  • Experience with modern molecular biology & gene editing techniques
  • Experience with next gen sequencing (genomic, RNAseq) and associated data analysis/informatics
  • Deep knowledge of eukaryotic cell biology, metabolism, secretory pathways
  • Deep knowledge of eukaryotic protein biochemistry, post-translational modifications
  • Deep knowledge of mammalian immune system, cytokine signaling, antibody function
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; scientific curiosity and creativity
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, assimilate new techniques, integrate disparate/orthogonal datasets
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and commitment to proper experimental documentation
  • Ability to travel to collaborator laboratories and scientific conferences
