Job Details

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

This person will work in Bioinformatics Core Services (BiCS) in Tarrytown, NY. The position is for Summer AND Fall (full time, about 7 months from May/June to December 2019).

As is typical with data integration projects, entities are indexed in order to be retrievable for downstream analysis. Such entities can be experimental data, biological annotations (genes, transcripts, exons), or lab reagents (deletions, insertions, TaqMan assays, guide RNAs). This student will expand an application that aids in the statistical analyses of biological experiments.

The tool is developed via the open-source R statistical programming language and the Shiny web framework. It provides guidance for statistical analyses that is user-friendly and context appropriate. This project entails the following:

• Construction of statistical test modules

• Collaboration with scientists for the improvement of statistical documentation

• Possible construction and integration of a content management system

• Database ETL (Extract Transform Load) activities from open source databases and internally generated data.

Furthermore, there will be learning opportunities in MySQL, Genome Browsers, R, and Shiny, as well as REGENERON technologies.

Start building your skills at Regeneron.

• Must be an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD student

• Must be pursuing a degree in Computational Biology, Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field

• Must know programming language -- i.e., R (preferable), python, ruby, perl, or similar.

• Must have good oral and writing skills. The student will need to summarize complex scientific concepts, write reports, and present findings.

General Co-op Program Information:

• Must be enrolled in, or accepted to, an academic program pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or PharmD

• Program is full-time (~40 hrs/wk) and is paid

• Prefer demonstrated leadership in areas such as campus activities, clubs, sports or the community

• Minimum GPA of 3.0

• You will work with a specific manager on a project(s)

• Enjoy regular 1 hour Co-op Program events: learn about other areas of the company from employees, soft skills workshops, networking, volunteering, and more!

• Present to your team on your project(s)
