As an AbbVie Experiential Intern, you'll participate in a paid, ten to twelve-week summer program that is focused on providing students with robust projects throughout the summer. As an intern, you will be located at our corporate headquarters in north suburban Chicago, with housing and shuttle services for eligible students.

Department Overview - R&D Environmental Health and Safety

This department is primarily responsible for preventing injuries, illnesses and unanticipated environmental releases for global R&D operations. This group supports programs to maintain safety and environmental compliance, while addressing the unique risks present in bench top and scale-up pharmaceutical operations. We work closely with our internal stakeholders to identify and manage programs to reduce these risks.

Assignment Details

This assignment will offer the opportunity for environmental, health and safety experience within the Global Pharmaceutical Research & Development Division. The intern will interact with various business areas within GPRD such as laboratories and Development Center operations for Chemical and Formulation. Location will be Lake County and offers an opportunity to gain hands on understanding of the EHS systems and regulations as they apply in the pharmaceutical R&D industry.

Basic:
  • Completed at least one year of college education before beginning internship
  • Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Level Student
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0/4.0
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT can be accommodated).
  • Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, emphasis in industrial hygiene preferred

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree (Masters) in progress
  • Exposure to environmental, industrial hygiene and safety disciplines
