Job Details

The mission of the Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Directorate (BIDS) is to leverage leading-edge data science and information technology skills and capabilities to provide the best tools and services to accelerate translation of biomedical data to scientific discoveries, medical treatments, and diagnostic and prevention tools for cancer and AIDS patients.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver enterprise software for data services platform. Define and implement new data service APIs, architectures and capabilities
  • Perform design, development, integration and deployment using agreed upon standards and tools
  • Provide technical leadership and direction for software development initiatives.
  • Routinely provide deliverable schedules, timelines and level-of-effort estimations.
  • Mentor, coach and lead software engineers at all levels. Manage sub-contractors as required.
  • Participate in code reviews and sprint retrospectives
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, SMEs and other technical leads to help drive business value into solution designs
  • Identify and address technology challenges to develop robust, secure, and scalable products and solutions that meets or exceeds customer expectations
  • Maintain high standards of software quality while delivering solutions on-time and within budget
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends and advances in data and metadata management and provide inputs for roadmap development
  • Research and evaluate software products and development tools

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Possession of a Masters degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education).
  • A minimum 4 years of experience in object-oriented, JAVA and J2EE software development.
  • A minimum 1 year of experience in a leadership capacity for a small team of engineers.
  • Experience with MVC frameworks e.g. Spring, Struts
  • Proficient in RDBMS e.g. PostgreSQL, Oracle. Experienced in ORM frameworks e.g. Hibernate
  • Experience with web UI libraries and frameworks e.g. JQuery, Ajax, Angular
  • Experience with RESTful web services
  • Experience with Source Control systems e.g., Github, SVN
  • Experience with debugging, performance profiling and optimization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • Java, JavaScript, Struts 2, Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, RESTful Web Services, AJAX, AngularJS, VueJS, SQL/NoSql, AWS
