JOB DESCRIPTION:The primary focus of this role within the Safety COE is to support implementation of new safety programs with a specific focus on employee injury and illness prevention. The person in role is accountable to support the GEHSS team and the global facilities with enhancements to safety culture, programs and risk reduction. The person in role is accountable as the lead for tracking and trending company-wide safety performance metrics and identify trends that require additional focus to address risks factors that impact employees and contractors.

This role reports to the Director, Head of Safety Center of Excellence.
  • Partners with GEHSS staff and global facilities to develop and enhance safety programs that continuously improve BMS safety culture, leadership and performance through cultural initiatives, risk identification/management, communications and incident analysis.
  • Monitors company-wide Injury, Illness, and Incident Data metrics and identifies opportunities for EHS improvements. The person in role is responsible for monitoring and coordinating the final assessment of "recordability" of individual incidents working within a strong partnership to Health Services.
  • Monitors BMS incident rate performance and supports the evaluation of significant incidents together with facilities to ensure that appropriate investigation and corrective actions are performed and lessons learned on impactful events are broadly communicated throughout the BMS network.
  • Responsible for working with US based sites on the review and electronic submission of required recordkeeping forms to OSHA (300a forms).
  • Responsible for tracking safety related regulatory developments and to interpret and communicate impacts to BMS facilities.
  • Supporting work-streams focused on Serious Injury & Fatality prevention programs.
  • Supports implementation of behavior based safety programs (e.g., DuPont STOP). Responsibilities include review and development of training materials, process improvements, observation data management support, and monitoring program performance and sustainability.
  • Collects and maintains metrics to measure effectiveness of culture change using data from existing IM platforms, culture surveys and EHS program evaluations.
  • Considers the need for new safety training programs and platforms and supports implementation of harmonized programs within the global network.
  • Supports development of safety communications with management and EHS leaders to be used at town halls, with mass mailers, by safety committees, etc. Communications will require collaboration with other BMS functions including Health Services, Global Engineering Services, GMS, R&D and Commercial Operations.
  • Work within a highly matrixed organization to support activities with other environmental, health medical, and industrial hygiene staff for program implementation, system evaluation, communications or subject matter expertise.
  • Support departmental safety initiatives including Safety Awards, Safety June Month, and EHS Communications.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree required - degree in a science related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience participating in safety related programs at a site and/or corporate level. Preferable to have a background in EHS&S and experience in the development and/or implementation of safety related programs.
  • Certified Safety Professional/Certified Industrial Hygienist or similar certification is preferred, and/or ability to receive certification in the near term is preferred.
  • Must have strong experience with data base programs and data management.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
  • Operates with a sense of urgency and provides timely responses to inquiries.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task, be detail oriented, and accurate.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to professionally communicate with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Need to be willing to adjust schedule as required when working with sites in different time zones.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to global network facilities.
