Job Details

CSP - The Clinical Services Program's primary mission is to perform sequential studies using samples obtained from patients with cancer, AIDS, chronic granulomatous disease or other diseases associated with immunologic dysfunction, as well as to monitor neutrophil function in patients with recurrent bacterial infections due to unknown immunodeficiencies

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Scientist I will:
  • Assist the head of the laboratory in the interpretation and compilation of patient studies
  • Assist in the development of new analytical methods for measuring Neutrophil Extracellular Traps formation (NETosis)
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of new SOPs to assess neutrophil function
  • Perform daily operation of all instruments and procedures
  • Serve as a technical authority and mentor in the absence of the lead laboratory scientist
  • Be responsible for formal reporting of data including presentations and/or publications
  • Stay abreast of current research techniques and remain knowledgeable in pertinent areas through reading literature and by attending scientific presentations
  • Manage, compile, and analyze large datasets from multi-array cytokine studies and chemotaxis studies
  • The position will require work under BSL II*/BSL II and will require adherence to strict safety protocols

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Possession of a PhD degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education).
  • Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • No experience required beyond the doctorate degree
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • Extensive lab experience with sterile techniques
  • Experience with Prism graphing software
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to independently design and conduct experiments
  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures for BSL II* laboratories
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Expected Competencies:
  • Knowledge of working with human pathogens
  • Strong statistical skills
  • Understanding of the analysis of cellular chemotaxis
  • Understanding of genetic mutations and consequences
  • Understanding of issues associated with clinical research
