Part time
Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

These positions are in Protein Expression Sciences in Tarrytown, NY. There are 4 openings for Summer 2019. Each opening is described below.

Position 1:
The internship will focus on screening a library of antibodies in mammalian cells. Antibodies are heterodimeric proteins composed of two heavy chains and two light chains that bind antigens through their variable domains. The project will screen a library of heavy and light chains to identify antibodies that bind novel antigens. The intern will gain experience in a diverse set of molecular biology techniques including, PCR, restriction enzyme digests, ligations, bacterial transformations and sequencing. Additional cell culture techniques will involve mammalian cell culture, transfections, and flow cytometry.

Position 2:
The internship will evaluate new methodologies for expressing bispecific antibodies. A bispecific antibody contains two different antigen binding arms allowing the bispecific antibody to bind two unique targets. This project will construct new bispecific antibody plasmids with the goal of optimizing overall bispecific expression in mammalian cells. The intern will gain experience in a diverse set of molecular biology techniques including, PCR, restriction enzyme digests, ligations, bacterial transformations and sequencing. Additional cell culture techniques will involve mammalian cell culture and transfections, and flow cytometry.

Position 3:
The internship will evaluate new methodologies to improve antibody expression in CHO stable cell lines. Expression of recombinant antibodies in CHO cells may be limiting due to a bottleneck generated in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). This project will focus on evaluating known activators of ER stress as well as their role in expansion of the endoplasmic reticulum, with the overall goal of improving antibody expression in CHO cells. The candidate will gain experience in basic cell biology techniques, western blot analysis, microscopy and flow cytometry.

Position 4:
The internship will evaluate new processes to identify antibody expressing CHO stable cell lines. Early identification of high titer antibody expressing cell lines is an important step in the development of antibody therapeutics. The project will evaluate high-throughput automated methods to screen and identify CHO cells lines that express high levels of therapeutic antibodies. The candidate will gain experience in basic cell culture techniques as well as exposure to automated liquid handlers.
