Position Summary

The Head of Business Unit Strategy and Operations for the Oncology and Endocrinology Business units helps define, manage and track progress of core business strategic priorities across the BU/organization. Reporting directly into the Sr. Vice President, Franchise Head Oncology/Endocrinology, the person in this position is expected to play an instrumental role in collaborating with Sr. Leadership to determine the long-term strategic objectives of the business and ensure business growth through directing and managing business operations activities aligned to the BU and overall corporate organizational strategy that improve the performance of the BU through profit growth, efficiencies and/or productivity.

The Head of the Business Unit Strategy and Operations must have in-depth knowledge of the bio-pharmaceutical sector. This person must be a strong communicator, collaborator and influencer and be able to build trust with others. This person must exhibit strong executive presence and have experience and comfort with sensitive business topics.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • HBUSO partners with BU Sr. Leadership to design and implement strategic initiatives and KPIs aligned to the BU/corporate vision, in-an-effort to progress the evolution of BU/IPSEN as it expands its portfolio and footprint
  • In partnership with the BU Sr. Leadership team, create long term strategy and vision and develops and executes strategic projects that will position the BU successfully in a rapidly evolving landscape
  • Responsible for helping to create, implement and monitor sales infrastructure to enhance and support sales force operations including sales reporting, analytics, forecasting and sales force automation
  • Uncover opportunities for growth through customer targeting and focus.
  • Develop and implement business processes and controls to maximize commercial resources and profitability.
  • Sales Insights and Reporting - Develop and lead all Sales reporting and analysis.
  • Manage the Sales forecasting process. Develop and manage monthly forecasting with sales leadership team.
  • Work with Sales to design and implement sales incentive compensation plan for field sales force.
  • Take active leadership role in the strategic planning process and business planning process. •
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Key Accounts & Sales teams on brand promotional development, execution and performance.
  • Partners with BU Sr. Leadership to develop annual priorities and goals in alignment with BU/corporate objectives, as well as create robust communications, metrics and tracking
  • Coordinates and aligns organizational planning and implementation activities (strategic planning, brand planning, business planning and financial planning) across the BU by liaising key stakeholders to create and maintain an integrated planning calendar and process for the BU that aligns with corporate planning cycles and timelines
  • Lead strategic planning exercises for the BU to help synthesize complex business issues; communicate succinctly and formulate recommendations and action plans aligning functions to these plans across the BU (i.e.: continued build out of global center of excellence)
  • Ensures clarity of communications and understanding across all BU functions with respect to deliverables and timelines for agreed upon strategic initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners to transition and embed projects and responsibilities within the business once complete
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with all key stakeholders internal and external, BU and otherwise
  • Complies with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Ipsen U.S. staff


Qualifications

Education

Bachelors' Degree from accredited college or university, MBA preferred

Experience
  • Minimum 12 years' of increasingly responsible roles in pharmaceuticals/Biotech/life sciences experience; oncology experience preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in strategy, sales, operations, product management, business development/strategic alliance management.
  • Minimum 8 years of direct team leadership experience with management of cross functional teams.

  • Proven ability to work well with executives and ability to lead and influence across multiple levels and functions of the organization without having direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to comfortably dive into any area of the business, understand business needs, and facilitate executive decisions based on changing priorities for the BU/organization.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple internal cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated consistent track record of success and delivering strong results
  • Proven successful people management experience; i.e.: direct reports, leading and building high performing teams, collaboration.
  • Effective profit and loss (P&L) management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; excellent presentation skills to groups of diverse size and make up.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of biopharma government and compliance regulations enabling individual to work with limited risk within an environment of strict compliance and appropriate regulatory guidelines to successfully design and execute tactics, programs and tools that achieve business objectives.
  • Willingness/ability to travel by automobile and mass transportation up to 60%. International travel may be required.
