Job Details
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring the humane care and housing of research animals
- Rodent animal husbandry including feeding, cage changing, housing, and monitoring of environmental conditions
- Properly pick up, restrain, and transfer animals between cages
- Daily health monitoring, mortality checks, and routine observations of large rodent colonies
- Maintenance of animal room records
- Operation of tunnel (cage) washer, rack washer, autoclaves, and other animal support equipment
- Unloading of shipments and supplies
- Facility and animal room cleaning and sanitizing
- Utilizing computer skills for email, training, and basic data entry
- Work schedule will include rotating weekend and holiday hours
Performs other related duties as assigned by a responsible authority. Handle a variety of laboratory animals, keep basic records, operate automatic washing and cleaning equipment. Lift up to 40-50 lbs., and wear respiratory protection equipment if necessary. Maintain good personal hygiene. Routine tasks associated with general laboratory animal care.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a High school diploma or equivalent. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- Ability to keep basic records.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and wear respiratory protective equipment as necessary.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with the handling of rodents, operation of cage and rack washing equipment, receiving and inventory, and general housekeeping.
