Job Details

The Laboratory Animal Sciences Program (LASP) provides exceptional quality animal care and technical support services for animal research performed at the National Cancer Institute at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. LASP executes this mission by providing a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art technologies and services that are focused on the design, generation, characterization and application of genetically engineered and biological animal models of human disease, which are aimed at the development of targeted diagnostics and therapies. LASP contributes to advancing human health, developing new treatments, and improving existing treatments for cancer and other diseases while ensuring safe and humane treatment of animals.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Secretary will be responsible for a variety of routine tasks associated with the general administrative and clerical duties in support of the Laboratory Animal Sciences Program.
  • Procurement of office and laboratory supplies
  • Schedule and document meetings, conferences and seminars
  • Attend meetings, takes notes, document action items and distribute minutes
  • Preparation of travel documents and student internship packages
  • Prepare and disseminate administrative reports, documents and correspondence
  • Correspondence (telephone, email, etc.) with internal staff and external customers
  • Design and set up filing/tracking systems
  • Prepare and submit purchase orders and general expense reports
  • Perform data entry and monitor projects and perform core service billing
  • Tracking publications for PHL staff

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

This is a dual level requisition. It may be filled at either a Secretary I or a Secretary II.

Basic Qualifications for a Secretary I:
  • Possession of high school diploma or equivalent
  • In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of one (1) year of clerical/administrative experience

Basic Qualifications for a Secretary II:
  • Possession of high school diploma or equivalent
  • In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of two (2) years of clerical/administrative experience including one (1) year at the level of Secretary I.
  • Working knowledge of administrative office operations
  • Experience and proficiency with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications including; Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization and observation skills
  • Familiarity with scientific terminology
  • Experience with Costpoint and Corcentric Invoicing System
