AbbVie's information security teams depend heavily on accurate data to reliably deliver on a multitude of security services. The role of this senior data scientist is to be the steward of that data. This includes ensuring the integrity of the data from collection to storage, parsing and identifying gaps in the data or gaps in the retrieval of the data.

This role will focus on data sets collected by and for the purpose of improving AbbVie's cyber security posture.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with data ingestion and governance over data structures to ensure alignment with current and future data analytics needs
  • Ensuring the integrity of SIEM, data sources, and information security alerting services
  • Demonstrates high proficiency across a wide range of technologies related to the storage, transfer, integration, visualization, and analysis of large and complex data sets. Broad expertise in software development, data warehousing, statistics, and machine learning
  • Leveraging analytics to improve/optimize cyber intelligence gathering, tuning, and retention
  • Ensuring event parity between source data and SIEM content
  • Identifying, prioritizing, and coordinating the clean onboarding of new event sources into the analytics stack
  • Participate in the development of and alignment with different cyber threat frameworks (i.e. MITRE ATT&CK)
  • Proper event parsing and data model/information model compliance of all sources
  • Develop and implement tools and capabilities to increase (or support the increase of, or analysis of) key data sets that can be used to further cyber security initiatives
  • Defining and providing input into the strategic and long range planning of data security analytics
  • Monitoring our data sets to help ensure availability and working with the Engineering teams to improve stability/reliability
  • Participate in demand management with regards to data consumption, storage, and tool licensing needs
  • Proactively seek out new information and technologies in the literature/public domain and incorporate into individual project(s) as well as the overall program


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and 10 years of experience. Work experience in the pharmaceutical industry or cyber security preferred.
  • Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of data (management/governance, storage, protection
  • Thorough understanding of Splunk at presentation, engineering, and architectural layers
  • Proven implementation of creative technology solutions that advanced the business.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
