4D Molecular Therapeutics, located in Emeryville is a global leader in gene therapy product research & development using scientific innovation to unlock the full potential of gene therapy for patients with genetic diseases.  At 4D Molecular Therapeutics, our goal is to design and develop transformative gene therapy products using our proprietary adeno-associated virus variants platform to treat serious unmet medical conditions. We are currently seeking a highly-motivated analytical associate to join the Analytical Development group. The Analytical Associate will be responsible for the execution of routine testing in support of process development and routine manufacturing, and will contribute to the development of analytical assays for characterization of therapeutic products. The Analytical Development Associate will need to make experimental observations, review and analyze data for presentations and reports, and will share maintenance responsibilities such as reagent preparation, material ordering, and general lab upkeep.

Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

  • Follow proper safety precautions and laboratory technique in the use of chemical compounds and reagents
  • Provide laboratory-based analytical testing in support of Process Development and routine manufacturing
  • Assist in assay development and qualification studies
  • Design, execute and report qualification assays under the supervision of senior group members
  • Analyze data, identify trends and troubleshoot assays
  • Assist in study design
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and reagents in accordance with company policies


  • B.S. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Related Discipline
  • 0 – 5 years industry experience
  • Experience using basic laboratory technique, including pipetting is required
  • Knowledge of cGMP documentation is preferred
  • The successful candidate must have some background in protein chemistry and molecular biology techniques
  • Experience with qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and ELISA is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills are a must for this position, both verbal and written
  • Basic understanding of ICH guidelines
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (e.g. Excel, word)
  • Good time management and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment is a must
