The newly created role of Manager, Collaboration Accounting, requires a highly motivated individual with experience in applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze collaboration agreements, prepare accurate and timely results and to ensure effective control procedures are in place. This position will be a key member of a cross-functional accounting team responsible for managing the accounting for bluebird's collaborations, including: policy development, contract review and accounting assessment, business partnering, and monthly and quarterly close activities. About the role:

Accounting for collaborations
  • Account for collaboration revenue by implementing new or improving existing processes to ensure accuracy of accounting and reporting in accordance with US GAAP, including ownership of our proportional performance models
  • Define and educate others on our collaboration revenue recognition policy and amend as needed
  • Work with BD, Legal, and others on relevant new deals to determine accounting treatment
  • Implement software or other tools, including establishing a scalable master data hierarchy leveraging Oracle data dimensions across collaboration partners, to help track and streamline collaboration reporting
  • Provide insight to SEC reporting counterparts on collaboration activities and be responsible for updates in external reporting documents (10-Qs, 10-Ks, etc.)
  • Manage relationship with external audit firm with regards to collaboration activities
  • Perform and provide updates to collaboration revenue key controls, creating and maintaining review and other checklists as needed

Manage key collaboration relationships and finance committee operations
  • Manage external communications and help define working relationships with collaboration partners, building trust and open dialogue
  • Play a key role in issue identification and resolution cross-functionally by proactively identifying and discussing issues
  • Schedule and participate in ongoing meetings, both formal and informal
  • Work with FP&A counterparts to align timelines and expectations of JFC members related to communication of actual and forecasted results
  • Operationally manage JFCs (joint finance committee) by organizing and participating in meetings, including minute taking and reporting of action items
  • Prepare and send invoices to collaboration partners consistent with timelines in the JFC calendar
  • Manage communication of all other collaboration finance deliverables

Internal collaboration coordination
  • Communicate any significant changes to revenue timelines to SEC and GL Accounting teams
  • Drive timely and effective communications within alliance team members and other committees, messaging important JFC and invoicing topics timely
  • Align with others in the organization (Accounting, Supply Chain, Procurement, FP&A) to determine expected and actual reporting to collaboration partners
  • Work with FP&A partner to develop internal and collaboration forecast for partnered programs

About you:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in public or corporate accounting is required
  • Pharma/biotech industry required
  • CPA required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • Experience with collaboration accounting and time tracking desirable
  • Intermediate level with Microsoft Office Products required
  • Experience with Oracle preferred
