(50%)The Communications Manager, External Presence provides day-to-day management of AbbVie's BTS external digital media channels, (20%) leads development and execution of the processes and analytics to manage and measure this presence, and (30%) provides tactical and creative support to the BTS Leadership Team, BTS Core Communications Team and appropriate BTS colleagues on BTS external strategies including BTS external speaker program, external marketing projects, recruiting page (HR), leader presentation development and BTS identity projects.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as community manager for BTS social media channels, specifically BTS landing page, working with HR on the BTS recruiting landing page, upgrading BTS social presence in alignment with BTS identity and communications goals. This including coordinating content with internal content developers, BTS Core Communications Team and BTS Executive Leadership Team, as well as ideating, writing or editing content as needed.
  • Identity opportunities for the social media channels to engage with target audiences, both proactively and reactively.
  • Develop and maintain publishing calendar in collaboration with BTS Core Communications Team, U.S. Public Affairs priorities and other relevant corporate functions. Execute the publishing and monitoring of digital content, ensuring brand compliance, quality assurance and time response or reporting as needed.
  • Liaise with U.S. Public Affairs and internal BTS leadership on various campaigns to drive BTS identity through special projects to social presence (Facebook Live events, Career campaigns, etc.) impact.
  • Develop BTS internal communication and training processes to upskill content producers and internal leadership to drive consistent, effective and compliance use and impact of social medial channels.
  • Provide expertise in social media management, identifying and anticipating changes and opportunities in distribution channels and content by keeping abreast of evolving technologies and trends and leveraging tracking and analytics.
  • Provide tactical and/or creative support (Adobe Creative Suite, Publisher, PowerPoint, creative writing, etc.) to the BTS Core Communications Team on special internal projects, team off-sites, department team building, BTS townhalls, as needed.
  • Consult with U.S. Public Affairs Team on blogger engagement programs to ensure the right focus and impact is given to BTS external communications across AbbVie as appropriate.
  • Work with key leaders for approving and promoting speaker opportunities including presentation support and review.


  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or related field
  • 3-5 years of applicable company, media or agency-based communications experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in managing social and media channels or digital properties
  • Strong communications abilities especially in creative, modern communications, writing and proofreading skills
  • Project and process management experience with superior attention to detail
  • Ability to manage several concurrent tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to take complex information technology concepts and translate into meaningful, best in class presentations
  • Ability to work in a team environment with other creative people and prioritize competing tasks
  • Self-starter, proactive problem solver with a service mindset
