Region Head, Site Management & Monitoring

To enable AbbVie's emergence as a world class R&D organization, the Site Management and Monitoring (SMM) Region Head plays a leadership role accountable for driving the business of SMM by providing Regional strategic oversight and direction; operating in a region of multiple Countries within a global Area with responsibility for the on time, within budget and quality delivery of the pipeline and Global Medical Affairs clinical studies. The role serves as a single point of accountability across the Region; and as a leader within SMM influences and aligns within Development Operations, and with Global Medical Affairs, and other key stakeholders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Line Manager for Clinical Field Operations staff responsible for investigator site management & monitoring in either a group of countries or a cluster of geogrpahies within the USA. Includes people management and accountability for growing and developing a world class workforce that role models the AbbVie behaviours
• Ensures SMM Country personnel within the Region engage in early planning and processes for determining resources, timelines, and budgets for global clinical studies and programs to ensure that plans are able to be executed as per commitments to the Corporation (and often Wall Street); Includes, in part, Country feasibility , feasibility at the protocol/study and investigator site levels, and site start up and enrollment
• Accountable for the on-time and within budget execution of all clinical trials within the Region
• Accountable for the execution of World Class management, training, and development of SMM people in the Region
• Drives a learning environment and ensures continuous improvement in Regional performance by using innovative approaches, active analysis of Key Risk and Performance Indicators, metrics, milestones, and benchmarking to drive to achieve world class clinical execution. Manages identified risk through development of effective mitigation plans. Ensures health authority inspection-readiness at all times. Champions critical path management, simplicity in process and approach, and enhancing agility
• Works collaboratively with the Area Directors to: Implement resourcing and training strategies in response to changes to the portfolio affecting the Region, including effective organizational change management. Execute industry best practice for building TA specific capabilities and expert monitors in Region
• Accountable for ensuring SMM leadership, collaboration and teamwork across all key stakeholders within the country Affiliate; Represents Clinical Field Operations through partnership with GMA, including affiliate Medical Director and affiliate general manager community responsible for the scientific and medical aspects of the programs

• Bachelors or equivalent degree required. Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MBA) preferred
• Minimum 10 years of Pharma-related/ clinical research related experience
• Minimum of 5 years applicable work experience in a lead capacity with mentoring /supervisory/leadership experience in a country based capacity, and at least 3 years of experience in clinical site monitoring, demonstrating a high level of core, technical, and leadership competencies through setting and driving strategy and leading the management and completion of multiple, complex clinical studies
• Proven leadership skills in a cross-functional global team environment with experience in managing virtual teams and an ability to influence and align stakeholders, and be a model and driver of AbbVie's leadership attributes
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives and drive smart decision making. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate persuasively and with clarity, flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements, resourcefulness and creativity
• Demonstration of successful coaching, mentoring, and talent management globally
• Expertise in drug development, operations and resource/budget planning across global geographies
• Demonstration of successful execution of program in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities
