The pricing, reimbursement and access landscape is rapidly evolving and the role of the payer is growing significantly around the world. Advances in scientific and technological research are opening up new, promising treatments for previously difficult to treat diseases, increasing the demand on already constrained healthcare budgets. To succeed in this environment, the Global Market Access & Pricing (GMAP) Organization at AbbVie is building best-in-class pricing and market access capabilities with the overall objective of enabling timely patient access through sustainable innovative value-based solutions.


The purpose of this role is to lead global efforts to advance pricing and market access capabilities to excellence. Lead planning and implementation of Market Access Future Fit 2.0 and other strategic initiatives to elevate pricing and market access capabilities globally. This position will lead the design, architecture and implementation of market access talent development programs. The incumbent will serve as Chief of Staff for VP, GMAP by representing GMAP VP in appropriate forums and leading strategic and operational initiatives across the portfolio.

Key responsibilities includes:

  • Lead the implementation of Market Access Future Fit 2.0 and other strategic initiatives such as Brand Excellence Framework, Market Access In-Field Teams, Employee Survey Culture follow-up
  • Act as Chief of Staff by providing day to day operational leadership and oversight for strategic planning, operations, GMAP strategic budget, training, staff meetings, and offsite activities
  • Lead on design, architecture and implementation of market access talent development programs that includes pre-specified and bespoke continuous development programs, and transition and onboarding support initiatives
  • Develop core curriculum and blended learning approaches to support different target audiences by engaging with key stakeholders to understanding training needs
  • Work with BHR, L&D, Talent Management to implement Market Access Talent Management Reviews (TMR) and follow-through on actions from TMRs
  • Lead on monitoring of market access and pricing landscape and the associated implications for AbbVie
  • Drive the creation of an access mindset through structure experiential learning approaches and initiatives
  • Oversee effective coordination within Market Access by refining core Market Access processes and forums, and provide project management support for POs/POCN
  • Maintain and update market access framework and roadmaps (such access and competency frameworks and Market Access Stakeholder Archetypes) on an annual basis
  • Facilitate sharing of best practices amongst Areas/Affiliates across the globe
  • Represent AbbVie on specific BCG Market Access Roundtable (and other industry entities), and VP GMAP on appropriate forums as necessary
  • Work in collaboration with Global Market Access & Pricing, Global Marketing and Commercial Operation, Global Commercial Development, Global Pharmaceutical Research & Development, Government Affairs, HEOR, Managed Healthcare, Areas/Affiliates market access, and other functions to raise awareness of and educate the organization
  • 2-3 Direct Reports


BA/BS Required. MBA, MS, Pharm D, or other advanced degree preferred.

  • The candidate must have at least 7 years of progressive experience preferably in a variety of areas including market access, managed care marketing, payer support, health economics, marketing, pricing and reimbursement, or payer policy
  • Background in managed care, payer marketing, market access policy, or a related field is preferred.
  • Global Business experience with multi-country experience is preferred
  • Proven track record of developing, coaching and mentoring talent is preferred
  • Functional expertise in capability development, and learning and development initiatives
  • Ability to navigate and influence in a complex, global organization is essential
  • The candidate must be able to lead without direct authority by influencing, inspiring and motivating cross-functional teams
  • Strong strategic skills is essential to anticipate trends, shaping the environment and respond to changes
  • Strong written and verbal communication, and project budget management skills
  • High level of personal integrity, and global mindset and global mobility
