The Applied/Developmental Research Directorate maintains a Clinical Services Program that has expertise covering a broad spectrum of pre-clinical and clinical trial support, and immunologic testing.

The Vaccine, Immunity and Cancer Program at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research is seeking a highly energetic Research Associate II with strong expertise in immunology, vaccinology, or microbiology with experience in microbiome analysis.

This position description does not represent a current opening but may be used to identify candidates with skills and experience for positions within Leidos Biomedical Research that frequently become available. Candidates who express an interest may be considered for future positions at Leidos Biomedical Research.

  • Assume role in project investigating relationship between mouse vaccine responses and intestinal microbiome
  • Conduct in vivo mouse studies including formulation of vaccines and processing of mouse tissues (does not include hands-on work with animals)
  • Perform humoral and cellular-based immunological assays including ELISA, ELISPOT, flow cytometry, neutralization assays
  • Interface with metagenomics facility as provider of samples for microbiome data generation and bioinformatics analysis
  • Providing timely progress reports to Scientific Manager and preparing/performing presentations for management review
  • Writing abstracts/manuscripts for presentations in meetings and publication

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in the fields of Immunology or Microbiology or in a related discipline from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years equivalent experience in the appropriate field in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of five (5) years related experience.
  • Education or laboratory experience conducting in vivo mouse immunogenicity studies and performance of immunological-based assays including ELISPOT, ELISA, FACS, and other cell-based assays
  • Education or experience analyzing genomics, transcriptomics, or proteomics data relating to the microbiome
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

  • Knowledge of vaccines and mouse vaccine model, especially cancer vaccines and models
  • Knowledge of microbiological techniques, including growing, maintaining bacterial cultures and delivery to mice as well as experience with antibiotics
  • Knowledge of gnotobiotic mouse models
