Senior Research Associate, Pathobiology

 

Job Description

As a Senior Research Associate, you will be a part of Department of Nonclinical Safety and Pathobiology at the Gilead Sciences Foster City campus. You will be responsible for development, optimization, and validation of tissue-based assays. You will have a background in biology or a related discipline and laboratory experience in human and animal tissue preparation, histological staining, and immunohistochemistry (IHC). You will preferably have familiarity with in situ hybridization (ISH), immunofluorescence (IF), and multiplex assays. Your experience with multiple automated IHC platforms would be highly preferred. You will have good interpersonal communication skills, as management of projects outsourced to contract research organizations (CROs) will be your major responsibility.

 

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

In the SRA role, you will perform a variety of experiments to support research activities in various disciplines. This includes evaluating and optimizing analysis parameters, selecting appropriate methods and techniques to perform experiments, operating scientific equipment, analyzing data, and preparing related reports. You will work closely with investigators to understand project requirements and will independently execute assay and analysis plans within defined time-frames. You will also act as an expert resource for others at Gilead.

 

Your duties will include performing routine histology lab techniques such as preparing and sectioning formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissues, developing immunohistochemistry (IHC) assays, and evaluating results by light microscopy. You will maintain a safe working environment through compliance with all environmental health and safety regulations is required. You will properly document lab activities in an electronic laboratory notebook and manage outsourced projects and assay transfers to CROs.

 

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

You will have a Bachelor’s Degree with a solid foundation in molecular and cellular biology or related discipline with 3+ years of industry experience, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience. Past laboratory experience in histology, IHC, and other slide-based assays is required. You will have excellent organization, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
