The Director of Analytics will support the Global Public Policy, Research and Analytics team in the development of AbbVie's public policy positions and research agenda by developing economic models to assess the impact of state, federal and international public policy changes on the company to inform issue prioritization, policy positions and research agenda.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop economic models and financial analyses from which U.S. and international policy inputs can be incorporated to determine the financial impact to the company.
  • Create scenario models and simulations to pressure test novel policy proposals with a multi-stakeholder assessment to understand the impact to various stakeholders in the system.
  • Create easy to understand presentations clearly communicating the results of impact assessments to inform policy positions and prioritization of policy issues.
  • Translate real-world, abstract business questions into economic models and analytics that identify patterns and trends and provide business insights.
  • Work with lead for State Policy, Federal Policy and International Policy to ensure policy assumptions are accurate and prioritize work and ensure assessment outcomes can inform decision making in a timely manner.
  • Engage with and manage the work of external consultants to ensure deliverables are on time and high quality work products.
  • In collaboration with State Policy, Federal Policy and International Policy, educate and advise internal stakeholders on impact assessment outcomes for the purpose of informing internal decision making.


Basic:

  • 5-7 years of analytical and research experience in healthcare economics. Strong data and analytics capabilities and experience in statistical and sensitivity analysis.
  • Strong data analytic capabilities with proven track record of integrating disparate datasets and conducting complex modeling and simulations to develop business or policy insights. Experience in statistical and sensitivity analysis and probability simulations (e.g. Monte Carlo).
  • General understanding of U.S. and/or global private market dynamics as they relate to policy changes at the state, federal, and/or international level. Understanding of government payer dynamics on other stakeholders in the healthcare system. General understanding of U.S. and/or global public policy issues.
  • Experience in developing models that incorporate manufacturer sales, profit and marketing data, medical and pharmaceutical claims data, public healthcare utilization and cost data, Medicare and Medicaid data and third party vendor data. Experience and strong working knowledge of public and private claims databases (IMS, IQVIA, Symphony Health, Truven, Marketscan, hospital cost reports, etc.) Actuarial experience is ideal.
  • Ability to synthesize model outputs and effectively communicate outcomes of modeling to cross functional group of stakeholders in a manner that relates to company goals. Inspire business decisions by creatively visualizing and reporting findings so that the data tells an impactful story.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills, the ability to speak and write persuasively and with clarity, strong organizational skills, flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements, resourcefulness and creativity, strong attention to detail, and an ability to work collaboratively in a fluid organizational environment.
  • Candidate must be a creative, flexible and entrepreneurial thinker capable of developing persuasive communications to facilitate internal education and understanding of complex public policy issues.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment, handle ambiguity well and enjoy working in a collegial, yet highly demanding culture. Must be able to work collaboratively with peers.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field such as Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Sciences, Finance and/or Applied Mathematics. Advanced degree required.
