Job Description:

The Sr. Director will play a leadership role in Ipsen's External Innovation group, spearheading efforts to identify, evaluate, and secure Oncology external opportunities (primarily clinical stage therapeutic assets). It will be expected that these efforts will provide direct and visible benefit to IPSEN's pipeline both the near-, mid-,and long-term. The Sr. Director is responsible for identification and technical assessment of Oncology external opportunities in North America consistent with IPSEN's Oncology strategy as well as refining / refreshing IPSEN's Oncology strategy. The Sr. Director will be a key member of external innovation team reporting to the Global Head, Oncology External Innovation. The successful candidate will have a critical role in ensuring that Ipsen is considered a partner of choice for external innovation.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Identify, prioritize, and lead scientific assessment of external Oncology opportunities
  • Champion attractive opportunities to senior management
  • Cultivate and expand existing networks in the North American - biotech, pharma, venture, research
  • institutes and academic communities
  • Serve as representative of Ipsen to biotech, venture, and academic communities
  • Drive awareness of IPSEN and position IPSEN as partner of choice
  • Work with IPSEN innovation network (VCs, etc.) to enhance high quality deal flow for IPSEN
  • Collaborate with Ipsen leadership to help refine / refresh Oncology strategy and drive development of Ipsen Oncology external innovation strategy
  • share best practices with other members of the Ipsen External Innovation community and build a solid partnership with them and the rest of IPSEN
  • § Achieve all the above activities within the framework of the Group Values, Mission and Goals and in compliance with policies, procedures and documentation in force within Ipsen Group


EXPERIENCE

  • Deep Oncology expertise in the context of drug discovery / development
  • Confidence and scientific credibility to lead interactions with senior leaders of biotech companies, VCs, leading academic research centers , and other external parties
  • Proven ability to lead technical due diligence efforts / teams
  • Maintain and expand the candidate's network of biopharma leaders, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, academic scientists
  • Proven strategic thinking related to product development and pipelines
  • Ability to anticipate the evolution of the marketplace and the competition to maintain advantage as it pertains to business model creation, innovation acquisition and collaborations


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Ph.D., M.D., or M.D., Ph.D. in life science
  • Exceptional scientific credentials and external profile - evidenced by: publications, delivery of project milestones, successful grant funding, other scientific accomplishments (biotech or pharma portfolio accomplishments). Examples delivered through external collaborations and deals will be highly valued
  • Minimum 12 years' experience in biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry (or in related life sciences fields including venture capital and/or technology transfer)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Pharmaceutical Discovery, Development and Intellectual Property
  • Processes
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex information and analyses to a variety of scientific and non-scientific audiences
  • Interpersonal & leadership skills and ability to represent Ipsen in a highly professional manner
  • Ability to cultivate and develop long term productive relationships with potential external partners
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multitask efficiently and prioritize quickly, particularly in running a portfolio of projects
  • Experience working in a matrix environment as well as leading and leveraging the matrix
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in highly integrated cross functional teams


Essential Functions - Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • PC literacy required; MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (computer, copy/fax machine, etc.)
  • Ability to work on a computer up to 7 hours a day and occasionally sit or stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment which can include but not limited to office, laboratories, manufacturing, off-site venues, etc. depending on functional role.
  • Standard office environment. Potential interaction with laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals.
  • Close vision required for computer usage.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Required to consistently and properly use Personal Protective Equipment in keeping with Ipsen safety policies and practices.

Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements
  • Comply with all corporate and facility Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures. Attend all mandatory EH&S meetings and complete all EH&S training requirements.
  • Intervene in potentially unsafe situations and report any incident, unsafe acts, conditions or equipment. Report any emergency situation (medical emergency/chemical spill/security concern) by following established emergency programs and procedures.
