Responsibilities
Due to a strategic commitment to the growth of biotherapeutics within the Lilly portfolio, multiple opportunities are currently available within the Drug Delivery and Device Research and Development (DDRD) organizations. This group is a multidisciplinary organization focused on the development and commercialization of patient centered drug product and delivery device systems utilizing both internal and external technologies.

This role offer the opportunity to evaluate new formulation and device strategies for optimizing subcutaneous drug delivery. You will be conduct studies to build in-vivo and biological understanding needed to optimize the development of protein and peptide drug formulations and delivery systems.Your ability to apply expertise in various aspects of drug delivery to understand the impact of protein, formulation and device system properties on drug absorption to enable development of innovative drug products in key to this role. Other responsibilities for this role include:
  • Conduct inter-disciplinary, cutting edge research in device / drug combination product development to understand how device performance and patient experience are impacted by container engineering, device design, and drug / container / device interactions.
  • Design and execute experiments to understand the impact of device kinematics and cavitation on drug product quality, and injection physiology and injection induced pain on patient experience.
  • Work effectively in device engineering teams to innovate and evaluate new drug delivery and device technologies for delivery of parenteral products
  • Collaborate with packaging and materials engineering teams to design and develop novel container closure systems to meet the design requirements of novel delivery devices.
  • Partner with drug formulation teams to develop understanding of formulation and device impact on container closure functionality, device performance and reliability.
  • Keep abreast of relevant new technologies / capabilities and regulatory initiatives / requirements.
  • Authoring of technical reports , research grants, journal publications and regulatory documents

Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Biophysics or related engineering disciplines


Additional Skills/Preferences
  • Experience/ knowledge of drug delivery and device technologies
  • Ability to independently design and execute experiments
  • Basic knowledge of statistics
  • Demonstrated technical / scientific leadership skills; applied to problem-solving
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work productively in an interdisciplinary team environment


Additional Information
  • This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend annually for up to 4 years.
