The Associate Director - Health Information Technology (HIT) will be responsible for creating and implementing US Commercial strategies and tactics in the field of health information technology, which includes but is not limited to areas such as electronic medical records (EMR), Health Information Exchange (HIE), e-prescribing, mHelath, Clinical Decision Support systems, data aggregation, data integration, analytics, etc. This person will develop the strategies and tactics that direct and implement how AbbVie supports Health Systems' use of HIT and how p rograms and tools can be integrated within Health Systems and/or self-insured employers using HIT.

This person will be the U.S. Commercial subject matter expert and as such, the primary point of contact for external suppliers as well as internal business partners including, but not limited to, AbbVie Health System Executives, Employer Account Managers, Field Sales, Brand Marketing, Finance, Purchasing and State and Federal Policy teams. The position is also responsible for guiding the Brand Teams in developing plans to ensure AbbVie products are benefiting from EMR/ERx systems, and that launch product uptake is supported with rapid EMR availability. They will identify and develop appropriate opportunities to provide enhanced services to HCPs and to continually monitor the changing policy landscape of HIT, as well as evolving landscape of the vendors in this space.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Developing overall divisional strategy for HIT, e-prescribing/EMR to ensure that all brands are incorporating these areas into all future marketing strategic and tactical plans
  • Acting as a steward to ideate, test, pilot and scale-up of concepts in the HIT space in alignment with the marketing strategic and tactical plans across AbbVie
  • Conducting detailed segmentation of best in class e-prescribing and EMR vendors on an annual basis, due to the pace of change currently occurring in this space. Participate in HIT society meetings (HIMSS, etc.) to stay up to date with the latest technologies.
  • Act as a liaison as needed with other divisional team to provide HIT expertise, such as Real World Evidence team(s), brand IT teams, etc.
  • Support marketing initiatives to drive standards of care, including the development of resources that assist field-based personnel to engage with health system leadership in an effort to conduct data pulls and EMR integration
  • Responsible for ongoing market research regarding impact of e-prescribing/EMR on physicians and office prescribing practices.
  • Lead Commercial team, working with Medical Affairs, to ensure that all national eRx data systems have all strengths of all divisional brands accurately reflected and that the Medical information contained in these systems is consistent with FDA approved labeling and independently developed guidelines.
  • In conjunction with brand teams, support the process to ensure timely and accurate loading of any new products or new formulations of existing products in third party compendia and e-prescribing systems.
  • Work with sales training to develop necessary HIT training materials for field teams
  • Act as a liason with Government Affairs to understand how current and proposed regulations on the use of eRx/EMR systems and to incorporate the impact of these regulations into all divisional strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory issues with eRx/EMR systems

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business or IT. MBA preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations for HIT
  • 5+ years of health information technology experience, preferably in a hospital or working directly with hospitals
  • Comfort with HIT and its use in the business of healthcare
  • Ability to multitask on several projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skill. Ability to communicate complex information in an easy to understand manner
  • Positive and collaborative management style working with cross-functional teams to achieve business goals.
