The Laboratory Animal Sciences Program (LASP) provides exceptional quality animal care and technical support services for animal research performed at the National Cancer Institute at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. LASP executes this mission by providing a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art technologies and services that are focused on the design, generation, characterization and application of genetically engineered and biological animal models of human disease, which are aimed at the development of targeted diagnostics and therapies. LASP contributes to advancing human health, developing new treatments, and improving existing treatments for cancer and other diseases while ensuring safe and humane treatment of animals.

The Small Animal Imaging Program (SAIP) collaborates with NCI investigators in the development of: mouse models, new molecular imaging probes for early detection and therapy, monitor tumors in vivo, and perform drug efficacy studies utilizing state-of-the-art in vivo imaging techniques.


The Secretary II will be responsible for a variety of routine tasks associated with the general administrative and clerical duties.
  • Procurement of office and laboratory supplies
  • Schedule and document meetings, conferences and seminars
  • Attend meetings, takes notes, document action items and distribute minutes
  • Preparation of scientific and administrative travel documents
  • Prepare and disseminate administrative reports, documents and correspondence
  • Provide assistance to other LASP programs as requested
  • Correspondence (telephone, email, etc.) with internal staff and external customers
  • Maintain regulatory files (Animal Study Protocols, Institutional Biosafety, Radiation and Chemical Safety)
  • Prepare, submit, and track purchase orders and general expense reports
  • Coordinate animal shipments including international and domestic shipments
  • Perform data entry for project tracking and core service billing
  • Tracking publications for LASP scientific staff

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of responsible administrative/secretarial experience, including 1 year at the level of Secretary I or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of administrative office operations
  • Experience and proficiency with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications including; Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

  • Excellent organization and observation skills
  • Familiarity with scientific terminology
  • Experience with Costpoint and Corecentric Invoicing System
