Responsible for providing technical direction for selection, deployment, & support of Research and Development Finance and Operations applications. Manage maintenance of a technology portfolio of financial & operations systems that support key business processes. Work closely with internal IT groups & external third-party service providers to deliver high quality, customer-focused technology solutions & support services. Providing technical direction for the design & deployment of data communications used throughout Research & Development Finance & Operations organization. Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Utilize knowledge of relevant industry technology, standards, & business developments in all areas of technology solutions including: SAAS, XML,, clinical Data warehouses, Application platforms, SOA etc. & applying it to Research & Development Finance and Operations initiatives.
  • Perform data analysis in a regulated environment and work with operations data and understanding of how that data integrates with financial data within Research & Development applications.
  • Responsible for the development of business and functional requirements document, complex business and technical process flows, test plans and test scripts.
  • Contribute technical expertise to overall technology architecture & ensure the interoperability of all components, services, and the smooth integration of new elements by implementing a structured compatibility testing methodology and facilitating change control management.
  • Utilize understanding of the intricacies of clinical study trial data and clinical operations data and the multiple systems and middleware used to move, transform and upload for end user consumption.
  • Author user and functional user stories and requirements that involve the storing and mapping of clinical trial data and how that can affect downstream integrated systems, which contribute to financial analyses, portfolio management and financial output for planning, forecasting and procurement purposes.
  • Work with data in highly regulated environments working with GxP, Data Privacy (i.e., PII) and highly sensitive financial SOX controlled data.
  • Understand financial data management as it relates to early discovery and ultimately to clinical development operations that support activities towards different phases of clinical trials.
  • Oversee day-to-day business relationship with third-party IT service providers & internal support teams to provide and maintain high-quality technical support services.
  • Maintain "technology portfolio" within the financial constraints of an existing outsource budget to maximize business benefits Research & Development Finance and Operations organization derives from investing in IT.
  • Interface with internal IT customers to understand evolving business requirements that drive the need for new and/or modified information systems and/or technologies.
  • Coordinate with third-party service providers to evaluate & implement cost-effective IT solutions within confines of approved service expenditure levels & approve infrastructure change controls for all additions and/or modifications.
  • Analyze escalated and highly complex trouble tickets from the problem management system and conduct post-mortems analyses as needed to identify and correct problem root causes.
  • Oversee implementation and post-launch ongoing technical and operational support services
  • Resolve client, business, and IT relationship issues.
  • Provide expert advice on the selection, design, justification, implementation and business use of information systems.
  • Analyze business processes; elicit, analyze, and document business requirements; identify alternative solutions, assess feasibility and make recommendations typically seeking to leverage new or existing technology components.
  • Consult business client on how the data is created, consumed, and flows from system to system, and how data is accessed and utilized.
  • Provide technical direction to IT to inform design and deployment of data used to support business processes.
  • Work with business users to test the built solution in preparation for deployment into production.

  • A four-year college education with emphasis in computer science, engineering, telecommunications, business administration, or a related technical discipline or equivalent job experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in: (i) providing technical direction for selection, deployment, and support of cross-functional, global, or enterprise wide applications; (ii) Development of Business and Functional Requirements Document, complex business and technical process flows, Test Plans and Test Scripts; and (iii) Facilitating Change Control Management
  • Significant experience and proven track record in either a consulting or line management role in developing and implementing a strategic technology plan in an emerging information technology discipline for a large diverse corporate environment
  • Proven technical and vendor management skills and the ability to motivate a third-party service provider to deliver world-class, innovative technical services while meeting or exceeding established project goals within a predefined operating budget.
  • Excellent project management skills along with good analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers at all levels of management.
  • The ability to work effectively with others and a demonstrated cultural awareness during interactions with people in multi-national settings.
  • A demonstrated work ethic that emphasizes customer focus, quality and continuous improvement.
  • A plus: BSA experience with pharmaceutical, clinical operations, finance, and/or contract management lifecycle project implementations
