DIRECTOR, PAYER MARKETING

Position Summary:

Global Blood Therapeutics is seeking an experienced leader to spearhead our payer/market access marketing strategy. The role will report directly to the Head of Managed Care, and collaborate closely with Marketing, Sales and Strategic Customer functions across GBT. This role will be responsible for building the value proposition and branding experience, working to maximize our marketing communications to payers, group providers, health systems, and thought leaders, working in conjunction with Brand Marketing and other partners to ensure a seamless positioning for GBT. The role will require leadership of our market access marketing strategy, working with the Market Access team to ensure a seamless and unsurpassed patient experience along with innovative programs that ensure patients start and stay on therapy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with brand marketing leads to develop annual Business Plans and execute both product and service innovations
  • Develop a payer and channel/customer strategic plan along with the GBT Leadership Team that will ensure a clear path toward leadership in the SCD marketplace
  • Collaborate with multiple functions including Sales, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Corporate Communications and outside vendors to effectively execute key commercial activities
  • Lead a team of marketing professionals supporting Market Access. Responsible for developing GBT Market Access Value Excellence principles and training the team according to Value Excellence principles and practices
  • Utilize market research to properly plan GBT SCD franchise activities
  • Co-ordinate alignment on promotional activities with sales and marketing
  • Partner with Sales Training on marketed products and updates as needed
  • Develop pricing and contracting strategies for GBT, working with Market Access and Brand partners
  • Continually assess the competitive landscape and responds accordingly
  • Work within regulatory guidelines to achieve goals
  • Work closely with senior leadership team to ensure appropriate resources and organizational alignment is available to capitalize on short-term and long-term business opportunities

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have extensive orphan disease product launch experience in the Managed Care sector. A strong working knowledge of/experience with successful payer positioning in rare and orphan product launches.
  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience in the brand and managed care marketing
  • Good understanding of regulatory, legal, compliance requirements for success
  • Global Marketing/Early Commercial Development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to partner and work with multiple agencies/vendors, manage budgets and projects, cross-functionally, cross-geography, and with cross-company teams of high-level managers and executives
  • An ability to manage multiple demands and priorities on time, lead teams, gain alignment and driving decision making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required along with demonstrated presentation skills
  • A keen sense of the policies, regulations and compliance areas that surround this function and will seek to keep the company and our customers safely within them
  • Specialty oral product launch experience
  • Builds effective teams that work well across functions and groups
  • Experience directing and managing advertising and promotional agencies
  • Strategic thinker experienced in working with commercial and financially oriented issues
  • Working knowledge of reimbursement, clinical coding/terminology, managed care and healthcare policy
  • Bachelors' degree required and an advanced degree (e.g. MBA, PhD., PharmD) preferred
  • Able to travel 50-60% of the time to ensure appropriate representation with distribution and trade customers
