Pharmacyclics is seeking a Senior Scientist I, Cancer Biology and Immunology.

General Position Summary/Purposes

Provide strong scientific and technical initiative and hands-on implementation of assay development and new target identification/validation in the fields of hematologic malignancies and immuno-oncology. Conceive and execute novel scientific approaches to achieve departmental project goals.

Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities .

· Effective hands-on execution: Design and execute in vitro and ex vivo POC studies to validate novel hematologic cancer and immuno-oncology targets. Support SAR activities during hit identification and hit-to-lead optimization.

· Actively engage in the following areas of investigation: tumor cell proliferation, apoptosis, tumor intrinsic signaling, tumor-immune system interaction and immune suppressive effects driven by various cell populations in the TME.

· Investigate, identify, develop and optimize new methods and techniques according to project needs. Utilize technical expertise and available information to troubleshoot and resolve key project hurdles when encountered.

· Organize and document experimental procedures and results in a timely manner. Routinely upload data to Abbvie global database, to facilitate collaboration with cross-site, cross-functional teams.

· Actively participate in internal and external scientific meetings by presenting and critically evaluating emerging scientific literature to contribute to projects.

· Prioritize tasks and contribute to a highly motivated and productive research team with a sense of urgency and desire to meet project timelines.

· Develop productive collaborations and communications with other groups across scientific disciplines.

Required Qualifications:

· Ph.D with minimum 2-4 years of postdoctoral training in immunology/cancer biology or related fields. MS with 8+ years of academic/industry experience or BS with 10+ years of academic/industry experience.

· Prior working experience in the field of immunology or immuno-oncology.

· Strong skills in cell-based assay development and standard immunology techniques including isolation and stimulation of primary immune cells, cytokine measurements and immunophenotyping using multi-color flow cytometry.

· Ability to multitask and work within timelines.

· Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

· Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience:

· Knowledge and expertise in innate immunity and myeloid cell biology is strongly preferred. Expertise in NK cell biology is a plus.

· Expertise in cancer biology skill sets including gain of function or loss of function techniques to validate targets

· Experience in using cell biology models to validate compound potency, selectivity and elucidate molecular mechanisms of action

· Experience working with in vivo tumor or immunological disease models.

· Proficiency in biological data analysis tools (GraphPad Prism, FACS DIVA, FlowJo, etc)
