Responsibilities

Lilly Neuroscience is seeking a highly motivated and independent scientist to join the Pain Research Team. Are you looking for an opportunity to help facilitate our mission of discovering novel medicines for the treatment of Chronic Pain Conditions? Do you have a deep understanding of molecular and cellular biology, genetics and genomics? This role will focus on broad genomic (including transcriptional and protein profiling) evaluation of preclinical and clinical tissue. While Next Generation Sequencing / RNA sequencing will be a key focus, evaluation of protein expression by immunohistochemistry, expression in tissue via RNAscope, and mass spec imaging are all desired capabilities. You should be highly capable in the application of novel bioinformatic tools, such as NGS, RNAseq, and other profiling platforms to address questions regarding chronic pain pathophysiology and facilitate drug discovery efforts. You will also demonstrate critical attention to scientific detail, a keen interest in understanding pathophysiology of chronic pain, and be highly collaborative.
Key responsibilities may include:
  • Develop and validate NGS/RNA-seq protocols with human or animal samples
  • Lead development of novel NGS/RNA-seq approaches, coordinate experiments and protocols aligned to key pain-related research objectives, including adoption of ground breaking methods from the field
  • Map NGS.RNA-seq approaches to investigational hypotheses and optimize experimental designs for pain team
  • Oversee collection of human and animal tissue or RNA samples and rigorous QC for NGS/RNA-seq studies
  • Assess and select new technologies and external NGS vendors to procure well-established assays
  • Lead strategic collaborations with academic and industrial collaborators to answer key scientific questions

Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in scientific discipline with at least 5 years of experience post education or fellowship
  • Related work experience in bioinformatics, computational biology , or comparable practical programming and analytics experience preferred


Additional Skills/Preferences
  • Expertise in the design and procurement of molecular profiling data using contemporary platforms for transcriptional profiling and including single-cell profiling techniques
  • Proven understanding and experience in the fields of genomics, high-throughput sequencing, data processing, data analysis, and genomic databases
  • Excellent track record of analyzing next generation sequencing data
  • Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced, dynamic and results-oriented environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with performing NGS/RNA-seq data analysis including Motif analysis, Visualization and analysis of high dimensional data, and RNA functional and/or secondary structure prediction, Differential gene expression analysis, Alternative splicing analysis, Variants detection, Allele-specific expression, Pathway analysis, Co-expression network analysis
  • Working knowledge of techniques and software used to identify the results of transcription and processing errors; identify the direct targets of RNA-binding proteins; elucidate the ways in which RNA binding proteins, noncoding RNAs, miRNA, and post-transciptional modifications affect mammalian transcriptomes
  • Familiarity with WGS, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-seq, mRNA-seq, total RNA-seq, and single cell RNA-seq
  • Familiarity with public biological data repositories (TCGA, GTEx, ENCODE, etc.)
  • Displays creative skills to accommodate various study designs
  • Understanding of peripheral and central nervous system.
  • Flexibility to work independently and as part of a team effort
