Reporting to the Head of GPS Operational Excellence & Project Management Office (OpEx PMO) and a member of the OpEx PMO Leadership Team, this position will lead strategic and operational priorities for OpEx PMO. This position will be responsible for the successful deployment of the OpEx strategy across Global Operations. The position will be a trusted partner, and coach for the Global Operations leadership team as they partner together to meet business objectives and build the foundations to drive continuous, sustainable, flawless execution and performance improvement through deep and broad application of operational excellence methodology.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Use standard Hoshin Kanri approach to shape and execute strategy and approach for deploying the full OpEx to improve business performance and increase people's lean competency

• Train and Coach the leadership team members and other key stakeholders to increase their lean technical and lean leadership competency

• Train and coach site leadership teams, site OpEx/PMO leads and sites OpEx/PMO teams

• Leverage critical business (sites) P1 projects to deliver improved business performance & increasing skills of site resources

• Application of OpEx to improve safety, compliance, process stability, drive continuous improvement, build quality and efficiency into processes and improve process lead times and speed to market

• Improve sites structure using standard org design methodology

• In collaboration with OpEx Director - GSC to standardize site supply chain processes following GSC standards

• Improve key site processes including operations, quality and support functions to enable end to end improvements

• Build, apply and teach lean process design for new product and/or process introductions

• Use of understanding end-to-end value chain to optimize inventory and drive continuous flow of information and material within and between sites and suppliers

• Enhance the management system from the "shop floor" to the highest level in operations to effectively manage interfaces

• Manage and leverage external coaches to accelerate people development across operations and all global OpEx PMO community

• Partner with other OpEx Directors and team members to ensure standardization

• Develop and implement leader standard work for all key leaders in Global Operations from the supervisor level to the SVP of Operations

• Lead and or contribute to other prioritized OpEx PMO work as required

• Apply change management methods to ensure effective execution of OpEx and to promote a culture and mindset of operational excellence and continuous improvement across Global Operations with increasing external focus and embedding it into our daily work

• Build, maintain and leverage relationships across the matrix to identify opportunities for process improvement and facilitate the implementation and continuous monitoring of processes and staying up to date on developments in process improvement methodologies and best practices

• Establish a clear set of leading Value Stream and Operational Metrics that ensures early identification of issues to allow timely corrective action

Job Qualifications:

• Scientific or Engineering Bachelor's degree

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in Operations/Operational Excellence roles in Chemical/Life science/Biotech industry utilizing "lean" principles with over 5 years of senior management experience

• Demonstrated success in developing & deploying Toyota Production System (TPS) strategy to optimize manufacturing operations

• Successfully leading OpEx teams (sites or global team)

• Deep understanding and demonstrated experience reducing end-to-end lead time & inventory optimization

• Experience in level loading demand and improving production systems to achieve continuous flow

• Successful experience in applying "Model Area" approach to deploying OpEx

• Demonstrated success in improving manufacturing facilities' organization structure

• Demonstrated success building quality into processes

• Demonstrated success improving quality labs, high volume, short and long cycle time processes

• Demonstrated success applying TWI methods to enable effective employee training and qualification

• Demonstrated success in applying Improvement and Coaching Kata on short and long cycle time processes to drive daily continuous improvement

• Demonstrated success in line design (ideally in pharma industry applying TPS design)

• Experience improving capacity utilization of various processes: high volume, high mix, high speed, and long cycle time processes

• Expert problem solver with demonstrated success solving complex, large scope problems

• Understanding of cost accounting

• Ability to connect lean to improving compliance, safety, quality, delivery and efficiency

• Demonstrated success in coaching and influencing executive level leaders

• Ability to influence leaders and team members without direct authority

• Demonstrated success in developing team members in lean leadership

• Demonstrated success using lean to optimize business processes

• Demonstrated success in improving management systems

• Expert in solving complex, large value stream problems and leading major strategic initiatives

• Expert in developing type 1, 2 and 3 standardized work, as well as leader standard work

• Track record of success in the rigorous planning, execution and timely delivery of enterprise level projects and programs

• Demonstrated success leading change (both cultural and technical) to achieve continuous improvement

• Builds relationships, able to negotiate & influence, and manage change in matrix environment

• Demonstrated proficiency in managing portfolio of projects and in leading change through others to achieve operational excellence

• Superior written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

• Required travel of about 60% of the time
