The Director Pharmacy Services and Strategic Initiatives will lead the clinical and distribution teams; develop short and long-range goals/objectives, policies, procedures, budgets, strategic and operating plans for Pharmacy Solutions Covered Entity.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Partner with the Lead Pharmacist to ensure compliance with all Pharmacy laws and regulations. Oversee policies and procedures that govern employee responsibilities as they relate to the practice of pharmacy, including appropriate in-process/end-process workflows, dispensing procedures, purchasing, inventory management, prescription and signature requirements, pharmacy hours, and patient counseling.
  • Direct all dispensing and administrative functions to be compliant with all new and existing regulations. Support the reporting tasks for compliance with the prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) of each individual state. Implement necessary processes, education and training to remain compliant as well as optimize processes.
  • Lead procedures to assess therapeutic appropriateness for each prescription and resolve questionable therapy with patient's physician. Ensure adverse reactions are managed consistently with the standards established by AbbVie Compliance Department (FDA compliance) and report any adverse events related to the practice of pharmacy as required to states' Boards of Pharmacy.
  • Ensure standards of patient care by establishing quality improvement efforts to resolve service failures or persistent problems. Partner and align with Compliance Director and Privacy Officer to facilitate/ensure compliance to HIPAA and address potential patient privacy concerns.
  • Strong coordination and partnership with IT to support data integration, data sharing. Actively contributes to the formulation of project scope, timelines, and deliverables. Seek agreement and input from sponsors, senior management and business partners.
  • Direct liaison with AbbVie Brand teams for the development of long term programs and initiatives for the utilization of Pharmacy Solutions. Partner with the reimbursement HUB leadership to implement new product and service offerings.
  • • Represents Pharmacy Solutions to assess financial interpretation, assessment, analysis of future opportunities and the impact the opportunity would have on key functional areas within the organization including; reimbursement, IT, operations and facility capacity. Submits recommendations to the VP and Sr. Management for review and final approval.
  • Responsible for managing the budget in alignment with yearly plan and update with Finance, and identifying and projecting future expenditures.
  • Direct oversight of the facility and expansion requirements in order to meet the short and long-term objectives of the business unit as it pertains to new product and services offerings. Additional responsibilities may be added as deemed necessary for the business by Pharmacy Solutions Management.

  • Bachelor's or doctorate degree in Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Engineering or Business required. Graduate degree, clinical and operational experience and training with a MS, MHA or MBA preferred or equivalent work experience. PharmD with an MBA and experience in specialty pharmacy would be ideal.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting Pharmaceutical Products
  • Minimum 10 years of pharmacy or pharmaceutical industry related experience with at least 5 years in an operational, business, and people management capacity. Experience will need to include a well-rounded multi-faceted background with proven management and leadership capabilities of large diverse groups and the ability to effectively interact and communicate with senior management and executives from strategic partners and vendors.
  • Extensive knowledge of retail/specialty/mail order pharmacy operations, applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of product distribution and reimbursement channels which include third party (commercial), governmental (Medicaid/Medicare), major medical, and managed care.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in order to ensure solid understandings and productive discussions with senior leadership.
  • Solid understanding and comprehension of corporate and departmental level financial management which includes budgeting, short and long term strategic planning, accounts receivable, etc.
  • Strong program and project management: Proven track record of successful programs/project implementation of complex change initiatives (vendor mgt., process change, marketing & sales strategies).
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills with process owners: experience with strategy development; management experience in a matrix environment; successful track record in driving change to products and services to meet business objectives.
  • Ability to work in complex business environment: Track record of developing key business relationships; experience with dependency management - mitigation of delivery risks; proactive management of influence partners.
